The incentive payment seems to be the only benefit from switching - if you had an existing FlexAccount. There is nothing attractive about the account other than it being a bog standard current account. How does it attract people other than MSEers?

The switch bonus is the only attraction of many accounts you can switch to, so nothing out of the ordinary there. Tailor-made for the non-MSE switchers, and not to be sniffed at by existing Nationwide account holders, either. Several households are now £375 better off, and even some of those who could only switch single accounts have made at least £125. What's there to complain about?

However, anyone who is new to Nationwide would probably opt for the FlexDirect, not the FlexAccount.

Hi. Slightly off topic, but I'm in the process of switching. Can anyone tell me where the current interest rate is shown in Nationwide internet banking or app?  How can I tell if I'm eligible for the 2% rate on £1,500 on a FlexDirect?  Thank you!
Don’t see it in the app, as for eligibility have you previously held a FlexDirect account if yes then it’s likely you will get the standard rate not the bonus rate.
No "it's likely" about it. If you have ever benefitted from the bonus rate of interest on a FlexDirect then you will definitely get the standard rate of interest which, to answer the original question, is 0.25%
Unless if you have an unincentivised 2nd profile.

Can anyone who switched and received a new card confirm if they are sending out the new style card or still the old ones?
I received an old style one
Did you apply for a FlexAccount or other account as the FA appears to be the first current account type with the new card.
    I opened a FlexDirect account

I've got three active DDs on my TSB account (they are listed as active) for a nationwide account switch but won't have  a payment taken from them til next month (before the 30 day period where the bonus is paid) will I qualify for the bonus on that basis or does a payment need to have been made prior to the switch? T&c just says active, which all these are.

Hi, I have a Nationwide FlexPlus account. It's not my main account, I keep it as a secondary account mainly for insurance and for traveling abroad. I also have a Starling account which I don't really need as my main bank is Barclays. The Starling account has 3 direct debits on it, which are set for my credit cards, to pay minimum balances. Is this all I need to do - a full switch of Starling to Nwide, to get the £125 incentive? It sounds a bit too good to be true? Thanks.
    Yep.. Its true

My switch doesn't seem to be going well. I applied online via Nationwide's online banking on Sep 20th & completed every page of the application form requesting a full switch from Tesco (with 3 active D/Ds) to FlexDirect. After submitting, I had an error message telling me something had gone wrong, so I rang the next day to be told everything had gone through & I'd have confirmation 'very soon' & the new account would show up on my online banking within 24 hours.

A few days later I checked my Nationwide online banking - only my longstanding savings account was shown (been a member for 10+ years) so I rang again & was told a card had been sent out the day before.

Today I receive a paper copy of the T&Cs etc but no card & no forms to return. Still no current account showing online & my Tesco account is still showing on their mobile banking site. I've not had any text messages (except login codes) or emails about the switch. Switch is due to complete tomorrow.

Have others had the account show up online while the switch is progressing, or does it only appear once the switch is complete?

I recall something about a credit search being done during the application process, but my latest credit report produced on 29th doesn't show any searches.

The new account would (should) have been opened instantly - it has nothing to do with the switch process (you applied for an account, and you applied for a switch, they are two independent processes).

If you're not seeing it on login then either:

    • it hasn't been opened (in which case nothing will happen with the switch either) and you need to contact Nwide and chase the whole thing up
    or
    • it has been opened but hasn't ben linked to your online profile - so you won't see it on login.  And still need to contact Nwide to get it added as you're not able to access it and have no info on what's going on.

The plot thickens. I rang today to be passed from one person to another, & was told finally that there had indeed been an error. My new Nationwide account had never been opened. While that explains the lack of debit card & it not appearing on my online banking, it doesn't explain how I've received those T&Cs through the post, been told by an advisor that she can see my new account number & sort code on her system, & been told by another adviser that a card had already been sent out. Today's advisor told me he had no explanation for any of it, but that I need to reapply again...

I'm hoping my experience isn't standard for Nationwide, as I'm not very impressed so far :s  I was happy with Tesco & only switching as they aren't supporting current accounts for much longer.
