New Nationwide Switch - both new and existing?

Hi, I don’t think I have any for any bank. I detest them. I have Natwest and Barclays, and never use a card reader but I use the mobile apps all the time.Daliah said:Have you got a card reader for Natwest/RBS or Coop or Barclays? They can all be used for your Nationwide accountI’ll search anywhere where I might have saved one.
I still think it’s poor practice though. If you need one for an account, send it out. If you haven’t got one, and have phoned and cleared every bit of security, they shouldn’t dictate whether you can or can’t transfer money0 -
I am surprised you need to use one for a saved payee, even if it is one that was transferred in a switch. I have three card readers stashed away, just in case, but I'm not intending to make use of them any time soon. Presumably they do send one out if you are a brand new customer, at least I received an email to that effect.

I had the same issue, only difference was I wanted to send money back to my own account that I used to initially fund my account…. Nope not without a card reader.SuperExcelMan said:

luckily I have one for an rbs account and could use that, it’s rare you get asked to use which I feel adds to the frustration.Once you have one it’s straight forward enough.0 -

I am surprised you managed to run Natwest or Barclays account without the use of a card reader. Natwest only very recently started to let people use the app to approve transactions, including those of over £1K, which previously required the use of online banking. I haven't added a new payee in donkeys years to my Barclays account but until a few years ago, I had to use their PINSENTRY device all the time, even for things like logging into online banking.SuperExcelMan said:

I do agree, these card readers are a real pain, and Nationwide appear to be behind the curve on getting rid of theirs. Mind you, there are people, including on this forum, who refuse to use the apps and actually prefer to use card readers and other hideous gadgets.1 -
Existing NW customer with Flexplus, applied for new Flexaccount and switched from Halifax, completed Friday 17th and full £125 appeared in new account afternoon of Monday 20th...and somewhat later at midday today I got the text confirmation that i qualified for the switch offer....0

Despite text messages being an insecure medium to send anything my preference is because of a more simple reason. The mobile signal where I live is sketchy. Texts often don't arrive for some time or at all whereas with a card reader I have no problems. I realise it's a personal preference, just as people prefer apps or texts I prefer a card reader with online banking.
Just as I wouldn't want to see text message notifications removed for those who prefer them I wouldn't want to see the card reader functionality removed either.3 -
Switch of spare TSB into existing FlexDirect completed Friday, text message received today at 11.55 am to say I qualify for the switch offer and money would be in account within 24 hours. It was already in by the time I checked. Thanks to all on the thread for your help and adviceSave £12k in 2022 #54 reporting for duty0

Can anyone who switched and received a new card confirm if they are sending out the new style card or still the old ones?0

Mine looks pretty much identical to one I had issued for a previous account in 2017.andyhicks88 said:Can anyone who switched and received a new card confirm if they are sending out the new style card or still the old ones?

They have a circular indentation, but all card details are still embossed on the front.andyhicks88 said:Can anyone who switched and received a new card confirm if they are sending out the new style card or still the old ones?0
