As per your amendment request, we recently attempted to update the bank account you have attached to your PayPal account:
Bank account number: XXXXXXXX
Unfortunately we have been unable to update your bank details as per the amendment request. This may be because we haven't received all the required information.
You can manually update your bank details via your PayPal account. Please visit Profile, click My Money, and go to Bank Accounts. The XXXXXXXX being, genuinely, the Nwide account that is being switched to, so this looks real, not spam.
The implication seems to be that Nwide are messing up that particular DD transfer. Not a lot I can do though, except wait.
My switch date was yesterday and Nationwide confirmed old account closed and everything switched, today they've confirmed the bonus will be paid within 24 hours, so hopefully now I can be less concerned about the paypal and once the bonus is paid I can switch it back to my main account, since I only moved it temporarily to give me a DD to satisfy the switch criteria.0 -
I've not used PayPal for a while, but remember when setting up a Direct Debit, they sent a test payment of 1p and wanted me to verify the payment narrative/reference field they provided. Maybe they don't accept these types of DD notifications without completing that process again?

Never did to find out why Paypal sent that message though and I've had the same message re a new Coop account that I'm switching into and, as that has no funds in yet, I suspect miller is right re the 1p verification requirement.1 -
to be honest i have a suspicion there may be something up with PayPal at the moment adding direct debits, as i have been trying the last 3 days to set DD's up to two different banks, however i keep getting a message to say cannot be completed at this time. my sister in law tried on hers last night to see if it was just me and she got the same message too.
Worked ok for me the other week though.MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
Just confirming my switch from HSBC has completed.
I switched a solo HSBC into an existing joint Nationwide Flex Acc. I have received £125.Husband also has a switch in process. His is from a solo Virgin to a new Nationwide Flex.
we have used the Nationwide Flex, rather than Flex Direct, as we already have Flex Direct each and so have already have the high interest rate period. The Flex Account is a simple account with no requirements attached to it, such as monthly funding. It pays no interest, but we will reduce the balance form the switch to just enough to fund the small direct debits which have moved. Will then hope to switch from that when the next good switching offer is available.
Also currently involved in a solo switch to LLoyds. The good thing is about this one, if anyone is interested in another, is no DDs needed. We are switching to this one from a Halifax Reward,as there are already no DDs on this account.1 -

Friday 10th Sept - Switch Completed (no notifications received, but old account vanished and its balance appeared in Naitonwide).
Monday 13th Sept - Text message received congratulating me on being eligible for the offer, and saying it will be in my account within 24 hours.
Tuesday 14th Sept - £125 Appeared, marked as "Switching Offer".)
I was thinking about another aspect of the switch.
If an existing (or a new) member decides to open a brand new Flex Direct account to switch their external account to, they will benefit from the 12m overdraft + 2% interest.
Someone like me, who opted to fully switch their external account to my existing Flex Direct account will not have those benefits. I am thinking of asking NW is it not fair to have been given those again, since in effect I will be saving both sides time and effort in opening/administering one additional/redundant account. What is your opinion on this, fellow forumites? I know the T&Cs do not entitle me to having the perks again, i.e. 're-set' (as I already had them once when opened the FD account initially years ago).
Thanks in advance,
E_.0 -
My missing £25 have now arrived, along with a second text congratulating me that I qualified for the switch offer. No apologies, no explanation, but all's well that ends well.
As they are now also, in an unrelated move, taking my free travel insurance away, this FlexAccount is now ready to be switched. So long, Nationwide1 -

And, as Catplan has pointed out above, no-one gets the initial FlexD perks on a second FlexD account.
There's nothing 'not fair' about it - everyone has a chance at having FlexD perks once only.2
