Just to other readers, here's my experience to what's out there,
I went from orange PAYG (ask for deal from 450, get nowhere ask for PAC, get transferred to PAC people who asked why I want the PAC, then transfered to proper dept , spoke to a rather friendly chap called Keith who offered me)
Sony C905 (The phone I wanted hence the expensive plan), 1200 minutes a month, 500 txts 250 Mb Internet (Panther 45 plan)
discounted to 26 a month + change (a few pence). Cost of phone was free.
Rather happy and have a sparkily new phone to play with which I managed to debrand (not unlock) for free after about an hours internet searching.

Hi All just coming to the end of an 18month deal on 2 contracts paying 35-40 a month and am now wanting an Nokia N96 or high spec phone for free (ideally) with a very good deal. Has anyone had any luck on getting this phone - whats the best price you have had for your spend?
Thought I would research before making the call. Will let you all know how I get on.
If this is not forthcoming I may accept a cheap deal with a basic phone - I notice a few deals for a tenner a month with a few hundred minutes people have got on....0 -
It is definetely worth going straight through to retentions for the best deal. I wanted C905 but no good deals was offered C902 for free plus 600 mins + unlimited texts for £15 pm. Phone not as good as C905 but will save £270 over the 18 month contract compard to last contract. so very happy. Also get to keep free home broadband.0

No luck with Orange retentions
I am after HTC Touch HD on 12 months Racoon 35 contract (presently on Dolphin 35). The phone is available online to new customers for 127£ on this tarrif but out of stock for upgrades... I wanted to use my 90£ upgrade credit but CS only quotes me silly 195.50£ starting price which is charged on lower tarrif making it 105.50£. I could get the phone from Beepy for 66.99£ and 40£ quidco and told that to retentions but they wouldn't bulge. At the end asked for PAC and they were very happy to give one... Ahhrrrrr!!!!0 -
computer says no ! remember sometimes its not the employee - is France Telecoms automation of OrangeSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

Very true. The computer give the agent the info as your value as a customer based on your avg spend in a month. They have no way of over riding this. Retentions have a slightly different system but they still can't amend what it tells them they can offer. . .0

What I don't get is that Orange online upgrade was giving me Touch HD for 127£ minus 90£ loyalty bonus on tarrif I wanted. I just didn't have time to complete on that evening and next morning phone went out of stock (that was over two weeks ago now)... My min contract ran out in October and i was told by friendly CS that I do have atleast 250£ retention budget...
