knowing orange at present, I suspect the fact she gave you such a good deal on retentions is why she's not there now...
After 5 calls, each using a different tack I finally got this:

    HTC Touch HD Free
    700 mins/100 texts
    250mb data bundle £2.50 (normally £7.50)

=£32.50/month. However if I take the data bundle off I keep the £5 discount so the actual cost will be £25/month.

I do have to pay a deposit of £120'ish, but that's just credited against my next bill(s). O and they are out of stock of the touch HD as well.

Pretty happy though, phone I wanted for free despite being implicitly told it couldn't be done.

Hats of to the lad who sorted me out!;)

was on £25/month for 500xnetwork mins. Overspend of maybe a pound or two per month due to the lack of free texts.
As I was out of contract, said I could get a better deal for the same number of minutes elsewhere - they offered me 500xnetwork mins, 100 texts and unlmtd landline calls for 15£ and a new samsungg600 with a bluetooth headset to follow for a further 18months contract.
    Result in my book!

Been after the N95 8GB for a while now. Retentions a couple of months ago offered it at £30 plus my usual £25pm tarif - upgrades now say £150!!!.

Due to arrangement at work can get 30% off all 02 tarifs - they have just reduced this phone to free on £35pm and so I would pay £24.50.

Thought I would go straight to retentions - asked for PAC code, they asked no questions as to why I wanted to leave and offered nothing.

So after 12 years with Orange it looks like BYE BYE

PAC code never arrived. Rang up today and they had no details of my request. At least they asked me why I wanted to leave today - not that they made any offers to me:mad:

    Absolutely.

I'm going to get my OH to try once more and use the threat of moving to Virgin where she can get 300 mins and 300 texts for £10 sim only.

Ok, I've asked for my PAC. I'm just going to buy out the last 3 months of my contract with Orange.

I'm after either a touch HD/ Nokia N96 but have been told they would both cost me over £200 on a £25 contract. I need about 200 texts and 400 mins as well as internet/ email acces, so we'll see what they can come up with. To be fair, T mobile are doing some good deals on "web and walk", so we will see.

Also, I'm looking to add 2 new connections (1 currently orange payg). theyve offered standard £15/ month for 100 mins/ unlimited texts, samsung g600 phone....sounds like an ok deal. Any point haggling for extras?

Well done, that's the sort of deal I'm after for the phone I want. Did they say when it would be back in stock? I'm also intrigued about how this deposit thing works - you just pay some cash up front and they pay you straight back?

I am now out of contract - phoned at the end of last month pretty much on the day it expired to get a deal like this. Went through to retentions, told them by wife has one of the O2-branded HTCs for £25/month for unlimited internet, 500 texts and something like 500 minutes - with the handset free - and asked them to match it. They tried on the computer, said it wouldn't be possible, and then happily gave me the PAC. I was slightly amazed that he didn't suggest a different handset or package and just gave in.

I'm also wondering whether this is just a bad time to be looking for a deal because all the networks can do relatively well in the run up to Christmas and so don't need to make any effort? Should I wait until January?
  • I too am shopping around for a new contract. Mine ends on 11the Dec. I got a great deal last year:

    12 month contract
    Free N95
    500 mins + 500 texts
    30mb internet
£18 pm (they knocked off £15 pm)

Rang them today and they cant even repeat the offer from last year let alone offer me a better one! Will now be £25 pm for 500 mins & no texts!.... Requested my pac code obviously!

Shame though as I've been with them since the begining when they were Hutchison Telecom.

Think I might see what O2 can do for me as I have an out of date contract with them.

Good things come to those who wait......... but the best will be taken by those who got there first ;)

They said it would be back in on Thursday gone, heard nothing yet though- will ring today. Basically you pay £110 and then that's just credited against the next few months bills, so affectively I wont be paying anything else in till about 4 months time. That is if they don't mess up my bill.

Just keep trying, depends who you speak to. Some are absolute dial tones, you can predict what they going to say 5 minutes in advance. Just to illustrate the lad that gave me the deal in end said, 'well it should be £130 but take that, add this and we're down to free', everyone else I spoke to started the price off at a stratospheric £300!

I may be wrong but once you ask for your pack code you loose your bargaining power I'd of thought. Every time I just said I'll 'think about it' and left it there.
