Round Two
Well that was a waste of my time.
Rang up today and asked for my PAC code. I was asked why and said I wanted the SE C905 and to upgrade with Orange it costs £129.99 but I can get it free elsewhere. She told me they can't offer it free unless it is with a high cost line rental so she ordered my PAC code and it will be with me in 2 days.
O2 here I come then!0 -

You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -

I'm currently a payg customer with Orange. If I phone customer services and move to pay monthly will I get offered similar deals to what I have seen in this thread or is that just for people renewing? Just thought I'd ask so I know the best I can expect from them.
Thanks0 -
Was thinking about going to O2 via Dial-a-phone. I would get the phone free, £60 cashback and 9 months half price.0

I've been an orange customer for 7 years now, paying by Direct Debit.
My current contract gives me 500 mins and unlim texts for 27pcm (before vat). I currently use about 100 of those mins, and no more than about 600 texts, because the majority of calls are to a magic number.
I phoned up yesterday to say I either wanted to upgrade there and then, or know to go elsewhere. - my contract runs out on Jan 18th so no point asking for pac yet.
The conversation was rather dull and culminated in me saying "no thanks". Besides, the phone, that they want £129 to upgrade to, wasn't in stock.
Today I got a text message from them to say it is in stock. Here's the conversation-
"hi there, I called yesterday about upgrading and have just had a text to say the phone that I want is in stock. I'd therefore like to upgrade to the pixon, but a couple of things first"
"ok shoot"
"If I walk in to carphone warehouse or phones4u, I can get that phone free if I start up the contract I currently have. Yet you want £129 to upgrade to it."
"yes, but I see you've been offered 600 mins and unlimited downloads for £33"
"..I didn't want 600 mins or unlimited downloads- I offered to reduce to 1500 texts in exchange for some pic messages and data allowance...and thats £6 per month more than I pay now"
"oh fine, well if we keep it to 500 mins with your texts and the data we can do £25 per month"
"but still £129 for the phone and no pic messages.."
"ah, But you're saving £5 per month over starting again, you'll save the cost of the phone over the contract period"
"..no I won't, £5 x 18mths is £90. I'd be saving myself £40 over the contract period if I leave, and thats before any of the half price line rental deals around at the mo"
"ummm"
"yeh, I'll leave it. Thanks anyway"
I guess it's my own fault for wanting a phone that is currently being heavily marketed. But I don't understand why they can't match an offer I could get new. I even said I'd rather pay more for the contract and have the phone for free.
Are they really that disinterested? It was actually the 'retentions' department who offered me the rubbish 'deal' that the guy today quoted.
I'm very polite and cheerful on the phone, use the persons name etc so it's not like I'm getting annoyed and they're thinking "stuff him".

call request PAC & tell them you are porting out to Virgin payg etc...& then porting back to Orange through a retailer to get a good deal
that usually gets some action as it costs them hundreds to the retailer for you to come back as a NEW customer/accountSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... Ah so doing that does actually work then? I had read conflicting stories about whether it was possible or not.
I presume there's a 'how to' type thing on here about doing it so I'll go and have a look (in case they decide not to keep me).0
