Orange Retention Offers

Personally I think the mobile contract market is on the cusp of big change.
As more and more "unlimited minutes/texts" tarrifs come out, especially from EE and possibly more when they go 4G, it's going to be increasingly difficult for the traditional brands to hang on to their expensive limited contracts.
It's just my opinion and I might be wrong. Anyway, Orange never got back to me with anything good so I decided to pay to unlock my phone (and root it so that I could get rid of all the Orange junk) and go SIM Only with 3 instead:
500MB data
200 minutes
5000 texts
£6.90 a month, 12 month contract.
Combined with TopCashBack; I'm getting £43.91 back from them:
12 * 6.90 = 82.80
82.80 - 43.91 = 38.89
38.89 / 12 = £3.24 a month after cashback.
My handset's not falling apart and seems to have plenty of life left in it. If it does break then I reckon I'm still better off just buying a new one, even a locked one on PAYG, unlocking it and using that.0 -
After having been with Orange for many years I am disappointed that it looks like I'll be leaving them.
However they are simply just not competitive enough
I was given a Samsung Google Nexus phone for Christmas (they do not offer this model).
Therefore I am looking for a Sim only deal.
Tesco do a £7.50 12 mth contract which has 250 mins, 5000 texts, 500mb of data
Virgin do a £7.00 1 mth contract which has 150 mins, unlimited texts, 500mb of data.
Since I don't make a lot of calls or texts then either of these deals would be great for me.
Orange can not match the data on these deals however the other day I was offered 150 anytime minutes, 500 texts & 250mb data for £5 a month with my loyalty bonus's. However today I've been told there is no way Orange can make that offer. When I said the retention team called and made that offer he said it would be a 3rd party like car phone warehouse. When I asked how would they have my Orange password if they were not calling from Orange he sort of fluffed over it. Also kept saying Orange offer a better 'quality' service compared to Virgin or Tesco but couldn't define what he meant by 'quality'.
All in all a very unsatisfactory conversation.
I am now waiting for a phone call back, oh what shall I do?What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
After having 2 unfruitful conversations with retentions regarding getting a S3 on a decent deal, I have requested my PAC. Do not expect much from them. So moving to sim only deal from Tesco n wait for S4I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T0

what they mean with tesco is, say o2 network is busy you are least priority on connectionsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Well contacted orange to see if they would match an online s3 deal..not even interested - gave me 10% off line rental and wanted to charge me £40 for the phone.
As soon as I mentioned PAC code he couldnt get it for me quick enough then said if you have no more questions thats all I can do for you.
So time to start looking for a new provider !Pay One Debt 2012 Challenge #62 Next £10.65/£4100 -

Sorry, its a bit of a long post...
I range Orange on Monday, quoting the £15.50 HTC ONE X O2 deal (its also the one in rafa2000's post #5692);
The O2 tarriff suits me fine, for my VERY LOW use
(sometimes as low as 25-30 min inclusive, but, out of bundle calls/charges, and also data & roaming, neither of which were included on Orange!!),
During the call, I mentioned the free-of-charge 'O2 Travel' bundle..
..'deducted from minutes' EU outbound roaming calls (for 50p connection charge per call.) & free inbound minutes. + £2/day 25Mb data..
.. great for me, because the few times a year I go away, I make/receive EU roaming calls & use a little data.
As a band 4, possibly band 5 customer, of 16 years (1996-2000 PAYG, 2000-2013 PAYM)..
Initial Orange offer:-
* £36-10% and free handset
* Far too many minutes than I actually needed
* No inclusive EU roaming calling
(basically, a standard website deal)
Secondary offer, when I said I'd contribute to the handset...
* ~£23.40 Per month (£26 - 10%) ; Still, FAR too many minutes than I actually needed
* £10 MORE for the handset than O2 (And only the 16Gb version, rather than the O2 32GB version)
* Still, no inclusive EU roaming calls bundle
(again, another standard website deal, still totally misaligned to my needs!!)
I did ask the advisor 'So I guess thats a NO then?' .. which the advisor confirmed..
Needless to say,With the O2 offer being such a good fit for my needs, and the categorical 'NO' from Orange, it was a no-brainer!
... I requested my PAC, and then placed the order with O2 as soon as I was off the phone with Orange...
To answer Cpt Lightfoot's question (post #5699) ... Yes I was called from 07973 100 194 the next morning (That will have been retentions)...
... but I missed the call, its an outbound only line, and they didn't ring again..
... So, when I got home from work, and the new phone had arrived, they missed the boat...
The 'sorry your going' letter did eventually come, this saturday, 5 days after the PAC request.. But, my O2 welcome pack had already come by then.
I thought I'd have been met with bit more immediate enthusiasm from them when I asked for my PAC...
Must have been with them too long, they probably thought I didn't really mean it?!!
So.... 16 years of custom has gone on the basis of:-
* A luke-warm phonecall.. (We were both polite to each other, but the call itself didn't go well!!)
* A 'disappointing' EE retail visit... couldn't really get me out the store fast enough!!
* Plus a few other misc. recent & historical 'individually solvable' issues...
Love the handset, O2 reception is fine in the places I go, and the port-in went smoothly...0 -
I have just phoned orange to upgrade or get my PAC code depending on what they had to offer.
I wanted an iPhone 5 and quoted them the deal with tesco £30 per month for 24 months plus £100 up front. For that you get 750 minutes, 5000 texts and 1gb data. This comes to £820 and I could also get £30 cash back with quidco bringing it down to £790.
I don't actually need all that so after a chat the guy offered me 300 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb for £28.76 per month plus £99.99 matching the £790 give or take a few pence. I know this is less than tesco are offering but it is more than I need so I am very happy. There is nothing close on their website. The guy said their Internet speed is faster than tesco but don't know if that's true or not.
Hope this helps someone.'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'0 -
