You can cancel it, but you will need to pay a termination fee, usually about 75% + of the remaining months, so will be pretty expensive I'm afraid.
(although you could sell your existing handset to recoop some of the cost?)

Orange used to offer upgrades when 3 months was remaining on the contract, but now that's six weeks, so you won't be eligable to upgrade until 31/10/2013.

I'm not too sure about companies "buying you out". I think Phones4U offer some kind of service along these lines, but I expect you will need to wait until you have about 3 months left. They won't touch you with a year left, that would be way too expensive for them.

I understand you "really want out" of your contract, but unfortunately you signed a legal and binding contract and can't get out of it penalty free, just because you are bored of your handset and fancy a new one (which is what I'm guessing has happened here?)

Thank you for info. I am not bored of handset it is faulty and I dont have insurance and orange have been messing me about now for a while so just wanted to get away from them.
:jHas saved so much money since joining this forum, thanks to all you kind people out there :j

Unfortunately, the line rental contract is different to the handset. Just because the handset dies doesn't mean that you have any get out clause on the contract.

What kind of handset is it? You might be better going to the manufacturer directly, for a repair. A lot of them offer 18/24 month guarantees. Orange would just send it back to them anyway, so it would prob be quicker.

i agree with lottie go to the manufacturer to fix the phone theyre usually more helpful-u can do an early upgrade for a fee but thats when u have about 6 months left i think

If you're reading this thread, the chances are Orange don't want you any more.

Not that they'll say this directly of course, but their suddenly hopelessly uncompetitive retention offers amount to same thing.

Now that Orange and T-mobile have come together to make EE - the largest UK mobile provider - and Ofcom have decided grant them a 4G monopoly licence, EE are, surprise surprise, behaving like a monopoly.

It seems pretty clear to me that arrival of EE coincides with Orange and T-mobile (it's exactly the same in the T-mobile retention thread) dumping their customer base to clear capacity for EE's higher value 4G monopoly victim new clients.

I've had a read through Ofcom's judgement on awarding EE the exclusive 4G licence and it says that it must be in "the interest of consumers" and "use spare capacity". Clearly Orange and T-mobile consumers being shown the door to free up capacity isn't in the interest of these consumers.

If you are getting utterly uncompetitive retention offers, can I implore you to add your comments to this thread and to let Ofcom (consumers.ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/telecoms/) know what's going on. At the very least they need to wave a big stick at EE and stop EE from promoting their 4G service at the expense of their existing customer base until a more normal 4G competitive marketplace is established. I have to say, Ofcom have created this mess and really should be instantly proactive in clearing it up.

Maybe MSE should pick this up as a campaign.

If your contract runs out within the next 12-18 months, this probably applies to you too - so be proactive now and bend Ofcom's ear, before it's too late.

Personally, I've had the whole family "Orange Branded" with mobile and broadband products for ever, but everyone's been getting these utterly uncompetitive retention offers and I've pretty much given up getting them to stay (so everyone can have unlimited conversations with each other on magic numbers - family cohesiveness). Final straw came yesterday when they called to say they are taking away my BB "second line" (phone number and all), and charging me an extra £5 per month for the privilege.
  • I called them 23 months into my contract and the deals offered were exactly the same on the website. I thought I'll let the contract run as I am happy with the line rent etc. Just checked my bill and they have started charging me £10 more on my existing line rental. Called them straight away and was told as my contract is finished so any discount applied is also finished hence I am back to a normal contract......absolutely useless people. Asked for my PAC code and was given straight away with a warning that if I dont use it....they will charge me for another one!

Planning to move to another network provider after 10 years! Wont use and recommend them to anyone at all!

Further to my previous emails. I tried and retried to get a better deal out of Orange but I was being offered the same deals as on the internet for new customers. When I asked for a sim only deals, it was the same as well. So I used MY PAC and ported my number to Tesco mobile sim only (£10/mth for 500 min, 1 GB and 500 texts) which is active and am very happy with the service and customer services.
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

The other option is to take Orange to the Small Claims Court. Orange allege that the handset is obtained outside the airtime contract but every month part of your contract payment is towards the cost of the handset. Orange are a nightmare at the moment and may not even respond to the summons.

    Good luck with that:rotfl:
  • First call from Orange i got nothing, was looking to switch to Virgin Mobile but decided to give Orange one last shot.

Got a sterling deal at the beginning of January, Orange let me continue my contract eaxctly as it was before

    400 mins
    800 texts
    500mb internet
    Unlimited Landlines
    15 picture msg
    Magic numbers
all for 13.80 a month and they also gave me the Xperia T (unlocked )

I felt a little cheeky so i asked if they could do anything a little better to sweeten the deal, he said if i pay £20 upfront they could reduce the contract to £11.30. Snapped it off his hand and accepted, phone arrived next day sold it and kept my SGS2 it will cover the rest of my contract.

The first offer i got from Orange was BS and i put it as you guys did that they just didn't care about anyone spending under £40 a month anymore but i was paying £17.50 beforehand and they really sorted me out this time.

I'm already thinking of 22 months time and hoping i get a good guy on the other end to match/beat this because i really wouldn't want to switch but i would if i had too.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Want the new Blackberry have waited a long time.

Offered £20 pcm plus £179 towards handset for unlimited phone calls, texts and blackberry package, as I am not in contract and paying £19 for the same, offer seemed excellent. :j

Orange people very helpful also gave me a similar deal for Samsung Note as well.

Will probably go with Blackberry because of the security features and link up with MS Outlook.
