How many minutes and how much data have you used over the last 12 months?

If you can manage with less minutes or data, you can have the phone for less. Do you do much streaming on your phone?

Used about 250 minutes and less than 100mb data, but expect data to increase with the Nokia Lumia 800 as the internet will be easier to use than on the current phone.

The price they quoted me was free handset on 24 month contract, with 800 minutes, Unlimited texts, and 500MB internet for £20.50.

    Thanks

Best I can see is £21.83 on a 24 month contract with 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB internet. The offer from Orange is looking pretty good, you would need to be paying £33 per month to get that amount of minutes normally, I'd take it unless you need to have more than 500MB data.

I spoke to Orange last night to replace my HTC Desire with the HTC ONE S.

Their first offer was £31 pcm for 200mins and 250MB data. Way more than I wanted to pay so I kept saying "no" because I had seen a T-Mobile deal on mobiles.co.uk that was ~£15pcm effective rate.

I ended up speaking to retentions who offered me 400mins and 1GB data for only £16pcm. I agreed and my phone is due to arrive tomorrow. Happy days (especially with today's 4G announcement).

For me this is a good deal, others may disagree. My point in posting is to let you all know that this is available.

    What was your usage before?

I rang retentions on 20 Aug to try to get HTC One X as my current contract is Dolphin 26 but best they could offer me was £26 with £100 upfront which is pants as I've seen a T-mobile deal with free phone, 600 mins, unlimited texts and 100 Mb data with mobiles.co.uk. So I asked what about the HTC One S? She then offered me same deal as currently on with free handset for £21.30. I said I'd think about it but got her extension number, and rang back the next day and the day after and the day after. Strangely, she hasn't been logged in since and none of her colleagues can figure out how she managed to offer me that deal so I'm kicking myself for not taking it there and then.

Interestingly, they said I didn't have enough loyalty of the account (despite the fact I've been with Orange 19 years and have three other handsets on the account!)

Well done, but it would be more useful if you explain how you got said retention deal please.

I know, but if I take that number elsewhere, won't they be concerned I'll take the other three numbers on my account (ones on Dolphin 31 and another is on Panther 41, so Orange get anything from £110-£180 a month out of me!)

I have a Galaxy Nexus on a sim-only contract at the moment on Orange.

I get 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB data for £18/month. 30 day term.

I have started using more data (in 10 days i've used 500mb already!) so i rang them.

They offered me unlimited minutes, texts and data for £17. But it's a 12 month term. I always prefer to avoid 12 month terms so i have maximum flexibility.

I rang three times over the past week and was offered this one only, each time. Yet they kept saying this is an offer usually for those with iPhones as they wait for the 5.

    What does everyone think?

No other network offers unlimited everything on a 1 month sim only and even 12 month contracts with unlimited everything cost more than the £17 they're offering.

If you want unlimited data on 1 month sim only, Three are your only realistic alternative although you will need their one plan (2000 minutes, 5000 Three to Three minutes and unlimited data with tethering included) at £25 to cover the amount of minutes you need, even their 600 minute 1 month contract is more expensive than what Orange are offering.

    http://store.three.co.uk/view/searchTariff?sort=priceValue-ascending&deviceType=SIM_ONLY&priceplan=PAY_MONTHLY&deviceType=SIM_ONLY&availableContractLength=1

Your options seem to be limited to taking the 12 month contract with Orange (cheap, but with a loss of flexibility) or move to Three (more expensive but you have the freedom to leave at any time).

You have to decide whether flexibility is more important to you than price.
  • I had a call from Vodafone a couple of days back, as I'm in my last month of current contract with Orange. I thought I'd see if orange could match it.

Now first of all, I have been with orange for more years than I can remember, my wife and daughter are also on contract with them and my home and second home both have phone/broadband with Orange. So I'd think I'm a valuable customer!

Anyway, they couldn't match Vodafone in the upgrade department, so I said I'd have to go with Vodafone, so I then went to the retention department. They just gave me a PAC code and made no effort whatsoever to keep me. I said another 500Mb of data would keep me, but they said that would be another £10 a month. No effort to keep me, so I guess we will gradually move all of our accounts away from Orange.

Got to say, I am quite amazed at the lack of effort on their behalf.

All the feedback I got was that Orange have got 4G coming in in a couple of months and the other networks have to wait 12 months to get it. They seem to think that 4G will make everyone stay with them? Oh well, my son is on Vodafone and says they are great, so after God knows how many years I'll be leaving Orange.
