    Eighth Anniversary
Re the Orange broadband, I had it for 2 years (ended in Jan 2010 when I moved home) Prior to that I had Pipex. The Orange deal was free for Orange customers at the time I took it out. I found it a pain to stream video on at the time. Remember it was free, so I wasn't expecting lighting speed. The Pipex deal cost me £20 a month and was unlimited. I had to cut back on streaming with the Orange deal (well just not use it). I had a 3 day outage with Orange that was a pain in the 2 years I was with them. I have had broadband since 2006 and that was the only time I had "downtime".

I am now with Sky, and its the best I have had, but I pay for that, Orange gave me it free as part of my Mobile Contract, which they don't do now. Read the fine print, see what the gotcha's are (as you would when signing up to any service).

Orange was fine in my experience for general web surfing, ebay email etc. Comparing a paid for service with a free service isn't always fair IMO. For what it was it was good, even with the 3 days downtime. I still have my Orange mobile but they wanted to charge me a £5 a month when I moved, to get the broadband plus £13 ish in line rental, hence why I got Sky.

I've finally got my contract sorted. Think I started looking April/May time. I've been waiting for a good deal to come up. I must have rang Orange 10 times, and recently requested my second PAC code to try and push them into offering me something but it never happened.

Ordered a HTC One S from Three. £24 a month x24, 500 mins, 5000 texts and all you can eat data. Orange wanted £31 a month for a much worse contract.

Well in the end Phones4u had a better upgrade deal so I went with them - same as above but with 1gb data and £100 cheque cashback, so effectively £24.34/month for 24 months for:

    - 600 mins
    - ultd texts
    - 1gb data
    - free HTC One X

Orange were better than I expected though despite not going over my allowance very much on my current contract, so there are still retentions deals to be had

My partner has just got off the phone with Dial-a-Phone and has happily reported that, with Orange, he got:
    900 mins
    Unlimited texts
    1gb data
    Free Samsung Galaxy S3
    £185 cashback
    £33.50 per month

He had to do a small bit of negotiating with them after they originally offered £150 cashback, but he's pretty pleased with the deal and Dial-a-phone seemed quite keen to get him a good deal.
    LBM February 2011
Total Debt at LBM = £9,726
    Current Debt = £2,267
    Cleared = £7,459 (76%)

24 months - I don't think he was too fussed about the term

Thats a cracking deal, did you often go over your mins and get large bills?
  • Just been onto Orange. Very disappointed in what I was offered. Last contract I got 18 months, 600 mins, unltd texts and internet plus insurance for £26 a month. I always spent more than that with out of contract minutes. I'm across into Southern Ireland a couple of times a month plus 0845 numbers occassionally. I don't have a landline so use the mobile for everything. The contract expired about 4 or 5 months ago and I presumed that deal remained in place but the loyalty discount expires so I've been paying £15 a month more than that for 4 or 5 months.
When I phoned I'm not sure if I got through to retentions as it was just the coming to the end of contract place. All she could offer me was a panther plan with 400 mins, unltd texts, 1Gb of internet and 2 swapables on a 24 month contract for £31 plus £6 for the insurance.
I can actually get a better deal just by a 5 minute search online. Dial a phone have a free One X with 600mins, unltd texts 1Gb of Internet for £28.50 a month on a 2 year deal.

Have I simply got someone who couldnt do me a good deal or do I need to go to another department? Or are Orange not that interested in keeping their customers?
  • I simply don't get how Orange could not offer me anything. I can buy a phone now for £28.50 a month with the mins etc I want. With Orange. And anybody can get it. Add insurance and that's £34.50 a month. I'd be happy with anything below £30.
So I'm only looking about a fiver off the deal for my loyalty bonus. I've been a customer with Orange for 10 years or so and they're not trying too hard!
