Not sure although I would have though that if they are going to do a deal with 100 mins - they could do one with 300 for just a little more per month.

The thing with Phones 4 u is they can only offer the packages put together by Orange. So with the next package up where I gain in minutes, I lose out on data. To get both there's quite a bit of a price difference. It's swings and roundabouts really.

I think there will be a surge of retention deals coming soon. I, like many, took out a 24m deal when the iPhone 4 was released which is up next month.

I phoned them today to switch to a sim only deal (waiting for the next iPhone) and asked them to match the iPhone £12 p/m deal on 3. They couldn't so received my PAC. Will give them a week to write to me / call me to keep my business which I'm more than happy to do if they can match it. If not I'm off to 3.

Update to this. Retentions phoned and offered me the 3 deal for £10.50 as long as I committed for 12 months on sim only. Also agreed they would cancel the sim only deal if I wanted to upgrade within those 12 months. Win win!

I need to give Orange credit here. Excellent customer service both when I tried to cancel and when they 'kept my custom!'.

My contract was due to expire on 24 June. Rang up yesterday to ask for my PAC.

For £24.80 a month Orange have given me an S3 without a one-off charge and:

    2 GB of data ("unlimited")
    400 anytime any network minutes
    Unlimited landline minutes
    300 text messages a month
    Orange Care.

They also started the new contract as of yesterday which in essence means its a 23 month one.

My average spend over the last 6 months has been £40/month.

OH upgraded, through Phones 4 U.

    Samsung Galaxy SII
    200 mins
    Unlimited texts
    750gb data
    £21.50 a month

I think he could have got it cheaper had he waited a little longer, but he's saving £10 a month straight away on his current contract so can't complain.

Couldn't get a decent price on the One S in store though :(
  • Hi people,

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I managed to get quite a decent upgrade through Orange for the S3.

    400 mins
    300 texts
    750 mb internet
    unlimited landlines
    Free Samsung Galaxy SIII

    £16 pcm.

    Bloomin happy :j

Called up Orange and got a PAC code. I received a letter from retentions asking me to call them. So I did.

After speaking to retentions for 20 minutes and going through numerous options they finally offered this tariff:

SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 16GB (PEBBLE BLUE)

    1200 MIN
    UNLIMITED LAND-LINE
    300 TEXT
UNLIMITED DATA (Not 2GB capped). I really pushed them for this!!! :-))
    24 MONTH CONTRACT

    £29.28 Per Month x £24 = £819.89

I also asked them if I paid something towards the handset upfront would my tariff be reduced in price? They said yes and finally came with a figure of £90.00 for the handset and reducing my tariff to:

    £21.78 Per Month x 24 = £522.72 + handset cost £90.00 = £612.72

    so, £819.89 - £612.72 = £207.17

By paying £90.00 upfront for the handset I saved over the next 24 months, £207.17 or £8.63 per month. If you can afford to pay towards the cost of the handset, you can potentially save more money over the contract length as shown above.

You can also pay an extra £20.00 for an unlocked, no bloatware Samsung Galaxy S3.

I've been with orange for over 10 years now and this time around the retentions team are not as easy to negotiate a good tariff. My average spend is £35.00 per month.

Interesting they are now offering unlimited data, did that include tethering? Also what was the number?
