Hey guys, recently noticed that i was eligible for an upgrade on my phone after signing into my online account. Was delighted to see this as I was getting fed up with my Blackberry Curve 8520 due to its slow processor and lack of 3G signal. I do however want to stay with blackberry as I like the software and apps such as BBM which i use regularly. I noticed, from the list of phones i could upgrade to on the orange website, that the new Blackberry Torch (9860) was available on my current deal and only needed to pay £50 for the phone (which i can claim from blackberry by trading in my curve). i decided i would go ahead with this, so went on tonight to order but the Torch was now listed as out of stock and the only comparable Blackberry was the new bold but it would work out at almost £8 more a month than what im currently on or £150 for the phone to stay on my current deal (which is Dolphin 31 18 months, reduced down to £23 a month on the friends and family offer). So i decided to phone Orange to see if the Torch was definitely out of stock and when they expected more back in if this was the case, or to see if they could offer me a deal on the Bold instead. I eventually got through to an Irish guy in the upgrades department and explained everything to him. He then looked it up for me and said only the older 9800 model of the torch was currently available and told me to stay away from this because its an older phone and probably wont be worth much after my new contract is up after 18months. He then checked deals for the Bold and said it wasn't available on my current deal, but i could get it for free on the Panther 35 deal (i think?) which gave me more minutes and data and he would take 10% of my line rental to push the sale making it about £31 a month, similar to what i seen online. He closed by saying he'll let me have a think about it and will phone me back tomorrow. I really fancy the Bold now after reading up on it, but the extra £8 to my bill is a bit too steep. I checked a few other sites such as phones4u, carphone warehouse and t-mobile to see what offers they had on the Bold. On the phones4u website they had the phone advertised under the Dolphin 31 deal (which im currently on) and the phone for £49, basically the same as the deal as i seen for the torch on the orange website. I'm a bit !!!!ed off at seeing this after the guy telling me the phone wasn't available on this tariff, but will this give me some leverage to bargain with him when he phones tomorrow?
Would be grateful for any advice0 -
p4u have their own stock and availability usually a bit better than orange itself
if its jsut an upgrade you wont get much leeway with them
go through p4u to upgrade and get the phone you want dont be talked into something elseWhat goes around-comes around0 -
Just had a call from orange and their "we dont want to loose you" department.
Offered me a 'loyalty' deal which was more expensive than the original deal they offered me when i first phoned up.
Do they ever phone a second time to try to persuade you to stay with orange, or am I now up the proverbial creek!0 -
they might do but seeing as their not offering anything better id say just leaveWhat goes around-comes around0
