Hi, I'm at the end of a 2 year contract:

    Sony erricson c9something
    Unlimited landline
100 texts - just enough, most of the time
    600 xnet minutes
    Magic numbers
    Home broadband
    £20 p/month + £5 insurane. (I know they're earning off me by now!)

I want a smart phone, I like HTC Desire S, but the camera is no better then what I have now!
    HTC Desire S:
    600 xnet mins
    500mg mobile web
    Keep magic numbers
1100 texts - that's 1000 bonus on top of standard, even though I don't need that many!
    18 per month.
    Unlimited landline
    Keep now free broadband
    18 month contract
    18 per month + 6 insurance : 24 per month

OR. Sony Ericson Neo. (better camera)
    Same as above
    15.42 per month

These were on call backs from Orange Loyalty. I've not spoken to actual retentions as they probably guess I'm stuck there with free landline and have been with them since 1999!

Any feedback is greatly appreciated, it's all a bit bewildering. (I miss the days of EveryDay 50!!)

My contract expires in February and I'm now eligible for an upgrade. I currently pay £15.32 a month for 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data.

I have just been offered a free Samsung Galaxy SII for £26 a month with 400 minutes, unlimited texts and 700mb of data. Am I likely to get offered a better deal by speaking to a different operator?

    What goes around-comes around
  • Well, I phoned Orange today as it's one month until my contract runs out. I got the following new deal. Firstly, I know I said I didn't want to spend more than £10 a month. My deal is £15.50 a month but I get the following:

    1. 200 minutes anytime any network
    2. 1 magic number every 6 months
    3. 1,000 texts
    4. 15 picture messages
    5. 500MB internet
    6. 50 international minutes
    7. A new Samsung Galaxy

This is a 24 month contract.

I had already bought myself a new unlocked phone so I'm going to give the Galaxy to my mum, who is needing a new phone anyway.

I'd be interested to know what everyone thinks or if anyone has managed to beat that deal (I've not been on for a while and had a chance to keep up with the thread). Personally, I think that is a stunning deal as I'm unlikely to go over any of the limits and, as only 4 of my last 10 bills were under £15, well 5 really because one of them was £14.75, I am quite pleased that I shouldn't see my bills spiking above 15 quid in a given month. :money:

I haven't, as a rule, used much in the way of photo messaging and internet but, as the one of the guys I spoke to on the phone said, I might be inclined to use more of the extra stuff if I know I don't have to pay more than the monthly fee. That is true actually because, when I was on PAYG, I used to get free internet as part of the deal and I used to check the football scores. I stopped doing that when I switched to my last contract but can start again now. :rotfl:

My thinking is that if, come the end of my deal, I feel I'm really not getting my money's worth after all, it will give me more leverage for getting the price down if I am willing to forfeit certain things. :D

BTW, the first guy I spoke to offered me £13 a month but it was one of the older phones he offered me plus I didn't get picture messaging or internet and only got 500 texts.

Well, it's my mum who'll be getting the phone being the ever generous soul I am.:A:rotfl: TBH, she doesn't need or want anything fancy with the bells and whistles and is just happy with talk time, texts and photo messages. She has internet too but doesn't really use it much. Oh and she has magic numbers too.

The first guy I spoke to today, he offered me a deal at first that only included 100 minutes and had no magic numbers. I think he said that was a 12 month contract because, when I said I didn't want to lose the magic numbers, he mentioned 30 day deals and said that I couldn't get one with international minutes on a 12 month deal. He then looked at a possible workaround and suggested an "outside the box" type of deal where he added the £5 for international calls to the £10.50 canary deal but took £2.50 discount off to give £13 but that was with the offer two older choices of phone, the LG Optimus or the Nokia C201. This other guy got me a Galaxy but I had to forgo the discount plus I got the extra stuff I hadn't expected, i.e. photo messages, internet and double the amount of texts I was expecting. :)

Another thing came into my mind later today, which I hadn't even considered at the time but I could save myself even more when I am over in Ireland and calling or receiving calls. At the moment, I have an Irish Vodafone SIM, from which I pay 10c a minute to call the UK. It's certainly better than Orange's roaming charges but I am thinking now, I will leave my new UK SIM with my mum, who likes me to call when I am over there, particularly for any length of time, as she likes to hear about my day. She can put it in her phone and call me on my Irish mobile (I checked and the international minutes include landlines and mobiles) being careful not to go over the 50 minutes limit, it will cost me nothing for her to use my SIM and it will cost me nothing to receive the calls, I can then use the credit on my Irish phone to text or phone mates or if my mum uses all the 50 minutes limit, which given how much I talk is highly probable. So my new deal is great for making my Irish PAYG credit go that bit further. :j It's win-win. :D :money:

I love how two-faced I am though playing the ever loyal Orange customer over the phone and neglecting to mention I have a SIM with another company for roaming. :rotfl:

Oh btw, my mum's contract is up in 6 months. She's not as fussy as me and is unlikely to want to change what she has. Does she need to do anything when her contract runs out and does what she has roll over at the same price or are Orange likely to try and hike her price up?
  • New renewal last week:
    Nokia E6
    1100 texts
    500MB data
    Unlimited landline
    18 months
    Free home broadband
    £10 per month

That's a pretty good deal. :money: They mentioned home broadband to me but my dad is the account holder for that and had already renegotiated a deal with BT. They said something as well about getting free international minutes with the landline, I don't know if it includes mobiles though or is just landline to landline.
  • thats ok then if youre giving the phone away dont know why he said you wouldnt have magic numbers though
