But if you wanted a better deal, why not just ask for that instead of a PAC?...

I didn't particularly, but it might have made a difference if they'd offered me one.
Requesting a PAC code once through to retentions and getting a better deal (as opposed to getting through to retentions and just asking for a deal) is a myth...
I think not. It's happened to me a couple of times - including a few months ago, when I didn't pursue it and simply let my PAC code lapse.

That's why I was surprised they went straight ahead and gave me my code. Apparently 02 don't offer retention deals, so I was intrigued as to whether Orange are going down the same road.

over 5000 posts say otherwise. :)

First rule of negotiation - if they say anything about a competitor its likely to be incorrect :D

I gotthe duff info from Digital Spy and CPW Westfield and Exeter.

Interesting link though. The first thing I see is a decent 12 month retention deal, which might sway me going to o2. Unfortunately I'm consistently falling foul of Orange's higher frequency signal and it's tendency to penetrate indoors less efficiently. I believe O2 have a lower frequency and all things beng equal, are better indoors.

best thing to do is get a sim card for each network and figure out which ones gives the best coverage for where you spend your time. then see about getting a good deal on that network.

I asked for my PAC code yesterday and got a call today offering me (like someone in this thread previously)

    Iphone 4S 16gig for £60

    2200 minutes
    unlimited landlines
    unlimited texts
unlimited internet (apparently fair usage is 4gig a month)
    magic numbers

    24 month contract for £36 a month.

Didn't particularly want a 4S, i wanted to wait for the galaxy nexus as android looks much more promising now....but have hesitantly taken it more for the tariff. Have 14 day cool off period so will see.
  • Am out of contract with Orange and have been a customer for about 12 years now. Have my eyes on a new Nokia Lumia and have spoken to them a couple of times trying to find out the deals they are doing but no-one can give me an answer, although the phone officially launches in 4 days?? First perosn I spoke with told me I was not eligible for an upgrade?? Spoke ot a helpful chap tonight in retentions and he couldn't believe I was told that I wasn't eligible for an upgrade. Mentioned to him that all their competitors and places like CPW etc have their prices up and all he could tell me was they have no info at the moment. So waiting for them to call me back early next week and hopefully tempt me to stay with a good deal or will be asking for a PAC code and head off into the sunset.

Not sure if anyone on here has gone over this before and if it works the same as it always used to..

I had friends who used to work there and was a former customer and have spoken to retentions a few times. Orange has a specific formula based on customer loyalty that defines how much they are prepared to offer you. I worked there myself for a few weeks a couple of years ago and obviously no employees are allowed to know how its worked out..

But its basically down to how much money you make the company..If your going over your minutes and texts all the time and you won't be making the company much money..

They also take things into account like how many times you've called customer services, retentions etc..As they see this as you costing them money..

Too be honest, I was told in the very short time I worked there, if you can't build a deal for a customer, 9 times out of 10 it means there not making the company money and they don't want to keep them anyway..

This is my advice from word of mouth from friends, a short spell with orange and most importantly, being a customer with them, I actually had a long conversation when I called retentions as a customer and the agent was nice enough to tell me how it all worked, presumably to put me at ease..Wasn't really sure whether I believed it, but found out it was gospel after working there for a bit..

Hope this helps people when calling and hopefully will help you all get some better retention deals :)
  • What do you recommend? The Orange rep seemed very sure i would be able to get the galaxy nexus for free. He said "you can upgrade to any phone apart from the iPhone"

A clever trick by retentions agents so you don't affect there targets, if you cancel they lose money..So they'll say anything to keep you..

are u sure about the "galaxy nexus" from orange. Orange direct have said they're not carrying this phone at the moment (i.e. when it is released next week). You can get it on orange via phones4u or carphone warehouse but not direct from the network.

I've been trying to get a galaxy nexus but nobdy knows when its coming on orange. Even retentions said that apparently it failed their testing due to poor battery life (though i'm not convinced thats true, i think they were just trying to make an iphone sale)

Let me know if u manage to get the nexus from orange direct!
  • I'm due an early upgrade with Orange from tomorrow.
I currently have a Blackberry but want to get an iPhone 4s.

What's the best deal people have got on a 4s? Or are deals better for new customers. Should I just ditch my number which I've had for 10 years and start again?

Any help or advice is appreciated!

    Thanks
    Kelcoll
