Orange Retention Offers

  • My contract will come to an end in December after 2 years (NEVER getting a 24mth contract again...) and Orange are desperate for me to choose an upgrade.

Trouble is I'm not sure what to go for!
A few months ago I was set on getting the iPhone (especially when I thought the 5 was coming) but I'm not so sure now.

I don't fancy having to buy all my apps again and the advent of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) has really made me question my choices.
After getting an Android tablet and falling in love with Android 3.0 I'm starting to think that Android 4.0 might well be the way for me to go, the trouble with this is, it's not out yet :(
I have no idea which phones will definitely be getting ICS so I really don't want to get a phone that won't be 4.0 ready.
The Droid Razr looks perfect but I'm not sure if Orange will be getting that one?

Does anyone have any advice for me?

I would like to stick with Orange as I use Orange Wednesdays a fair amount (twice a month roughly) but if people can offer a decent reason for me to switch I am happy to do so.
I pay £21 a month at the mo with 600 mins, 3000 sms, 500mb web, 30 MMS and phone insurance so I have a pretty good deal. (I used the retention technique)
Happy to pay up to £30 a month if it nets me a better phone. :)

    Thanks in advance guys :)
  • Try and wait it out for the samsung google nexus which will have android 4.0 and is due a release this month.

As for contracts see if retentions offer anything and then check offers from all the others to see which best suits you.
  • Thanks, I'll see if Orange have any info about what phones they will be getting that support 4.0 :)
  • On my last couple of day's with Orange.
Never got a call from retentions and if I am honest I am looking forward to never having to listen to that bloody woman's voice again!

personally I'd give them a last phone - costs you nothing but might get a result. I had given up on getting anything better than the £18 they had offered and ended up with a great deal (IMHO). Hey I even quite like the phone :)

I've just asked for my PAC. I was more or less genuinely asking, because cost is more important to me than having a phone that can take the washing out and I'm thinking of going on a pay monthly Tesco mobile deal. Plus I've had years of cr*p reception in one place I often stay.

However I was paying a lot, as I never got around to rengotiating when I should have. I pay £40 for 300 mins and 100 odd texts (my average bill is about £50, last one £68).

I asked for my PAC code about a year ago, but was ill for a while and never used it. At that time I was offered a deal by Orange to stay as soon as I called, then got a letter and some phone calls that I didn't respond to. Stupidly I ended up staying with them by default.

However this time when I called I was expecting to be made an offer that would at least make me think about staying - but nothing; they just gave me my PAC code and that was it.

Given that I must be a fairly lucrative customer I wonder if Orange are following O2 and not really giving retention deals anymore - or maybe because I've already asked for a PAC once and stayed, they don't think I'm serious?

Thats a terrible deal you're on. What do you use per month given that you are obviously going over your minutes/texts.

    I got

    400 mins
    300 texts
    unlimited landlines
    500Mb data
    30 pic messages
    and a LG Optimus One

    for £7.52 a month.

Now I've been with Orange for along time but never a big spender. My average bill is less that £20.

Might be worth getting a sim card for each network to see which gives you best reception in the various places you stay.

I know the deal is terrible. The point I was making is that even given the money I've spent with them they showed no interest in keeping me. They gave me my PAC no straightaway. I was wondering if this might be a sign of them following O2, who I believe don't do retention deals anymore.

Personally I would phone up and ask about a deal rather than just ask for the PAC and then wait. Thats how I've always dealt with upgrades and always got a good deal particularly as I dont care about the phone.

But if you wanted a better deal, why not just ask for that instead of a PAC? You're already through to retentions so it won't make a difference to the offer by being straight with them. Requesting a PAC code once through to retentions and getting a better deal (as opposed to getting through to retentions and just asking for a deal) is a myth. Unless an outbound team call you back with more budget available, retention agents have the same tools at their disposal PAC code request or not.
