  • Thanks for the info. How much do you pay per month and what phone do you have if you don't mind me asking?

that number is a standard orange customer service number, I get phoned from orange on that number quite a few times. Usually when i request a call back, they have to ask you for first letters of your password for data protection they say. I guess they have to make sure they are speaking to the account holder since someone else could have answered the phone.

They ask me security question even though i might have spoken to the same guy literally 5 mins before, he said sorry but also said he needed to ask the questions for DP purposes.

Thanks for that. :) I've read varying stuff on the net, some say it's orange, some say it's a scam so I wasn't really sure who I should believe. :) It occurred to me that it might be linked to the fact that I phoned today but, given that the guy on the phone told me to phone back when my contract had less than a month to run, I was surprised to get a call.

    Re the phone see above.
The airtime is another redemption deal costing me £0 after all cashbacks.
  • I've made up my mind. I'll just carry on with my orange contract and get the free upgrade if i can
  • Get them to confirm some of your details back to you. Postcode, DOB or something they will have but a scammer won't or go half and half on a password, you tell them some letters they tell you the others. I do this with anyone who calls me and asks me to prove who I am!

    Current Deal:

    £25 per month
    200 minutes
    unlimited texts
    500mb internet
    magic numbers

I'm 2 months away from my actual upgrade date but phoned to see what they could do due to my current phone being on its last legs (24 month contract). I ended up with this:

    £75 upgrade fee
    £99.99 for the iphone 4s

    600 minutes
    Unlimited texts
    500mb internet

    £36 per month

Is this too dear? Is there anything I can do about it? The phone should be arriving today so I have 7 days to cancel the upgrade. My other thought was to claim through my insurance (fonesure) and see what the offer me in terms of a new phone (Satio is discontinued I believe, and I doubt they'll be able to fix it.. hopefully not anyway!). What do people think?

    The total cost is £1039.
The cost of the airtime is no more than £200.
The price you pay for the handset is ...

Early upgrades are expensive - because you pay the fee and stand no chance to get the best deal.

Cheers Grumbler. I've decided to cancel the upgrade and send it back (lovely £5 charge for doing so), then claim on my insurance and see what they give me - not that I'm expecting much given the stories I've heard about them. January is upgrade time without the fee, so will see what they offer then (and sell the insurance phone).

Thanks, those are all good ideas. :) I got another call today and answered it to be met by silence. Phoned the number back and got the pre-recorded message saying someone from orange tried to phone me. Is there any logical reason they wouldn't speak? I answered as soon as I heard it ringing and the call lasted 11 seconds before being cut off.

Its probably automated dialer which once you answer tries to connect you to a person and none was available. Thats certainly what used to cause a lot of the silent calls that companies got fined for.
