  • Hi

I have been following this thread for the past couple of days. Over the next couple of months i will be coming to the end of my 24 month contract with Orange (well, the 4th of September meaning I can cancel at the start of August). I am on £25 a month contract, with 300 mins and unlimited texts. I really like the the new samsung S2 phone. Does anyone think i would be able to get the phone for free, around or just over this price (certainly under £30 per month)? Im not to bothered about the unlimited texts, about 1000 would do me as well as the 300mins of talk time.
  • @MrGreen.Thanks. I'm always realistic in my expectations especially when dealing with Orange !

@newbienewbie.Do you spend more than £35/m ? If so you ought to try again..

Been trying to squeeze more juice from Orange ! Currently have this offer on the table based on "customer loyalty".

    Free Samsung Galaxy S2
    18 month contract
    1600 Mins
    Unlimited texts
    50 Picture messages
    1.75 Gig data
    £30/m

Tried for international texts, video minutes and unlimited data. Unfortunately international text or bundles are out of the question.
Was given a polite sermon on the pitfals of "unlimited data" fair use policy restrictions.
Success with the video minutes, 30 mins/mth albeit for only 6 of the 18 months. I'll ring either tomorrow or Monday and try video mins for the duration of the contract !

that deal you got doesnt sound very appealing to me,I would defo give the offer a pass. you may actually find better offer on other sites such as phones4u, check on these sites for more deals if you wish.

That would suit me fine. Can I ask what your current contract is?

    Thanks

I am currently paying £15 a month which gives me 400 mins & unltd text on an 18 month contract. It was supposed to be £25 month for 200 mins, but they gave me an additional 200 mins (easy for them as I never really went over) and an additional £5 discount on top of the already disounted online deal. Happy with that at the time.

Re my offer, I was very suprised to get it for £10 a month - considering the mins and texts and data I was offered and paying out the £107 was a relatively small price to pay.

That said, I am on a waiting list for the phone (Galaxy S2) and there is no guarantee that I will get it when they come in as there are oodles of people on that list.

Re other posters and contributors, I went straight in and asked for my PAC code...none of this mucking about - "I am thinking of leaving, what can you do for me", it was "Can I have my PAC code please" which generated a different approach from the call centre.

thanks for the info, mrylandb. may I ask when you made the call pls? the reason I'm asking is I've got about 35 days left on my contract and I'm quite wondering when it'd be a good timing to make a such call.
btw, SGS2 came back in stock last week(still shows available right now) and are you still on the waiting list?

I made the call on Friday after lunch (if that makes any difference)
I have approximately 3 weeks until my contract comes up for renewal.

Personally, I would wait until you're a bit closer as other networks may have other deals which you can quote as part of the negotiations. A pac code only lasts for 30 days, so I would certainly wait another week.

As mentioned in a previous post, I went straight in and asked for my pac code. This puts orange on the back foot straight away and they feel that they need to make me a competitive offer. Not just one which they think may make me stay if I was just calling for an upgrade.

You must do your research into other offers and be able to quote deals from their competitors as this will also indicate that your serious about moving providers and not just a chancer. Every offer will be different though as it will be based on how long you've been with Orange, your monthly spend and (probably) retention targets set for the call centre staff.

Finally, I am on the waiting list - I was advised that they should come in stock within a week. They will call or text me to say it's in stock and I will call them to make the purchase (clearly I am checking my phone every 10 mins for this elusive text......) something tells me I could be in for a long(ish) wait.
    Good luck

I'll just add something. A few weeks ago I phoned up for a Galaxy S2, was told it was out of stock and that they'll send me a text. To be on the safe side I also went on the website to the upgrades bit and there was an icon saying 'email' under the phone. Clicked this and was told that an email would be sent out when it was in stock. Last Thursday, got an email saying it was in stock, phoned up and got the phone no problem. I NEVER got the text.

Message is, don't rely on waiting for the text!

Thanks for the tip. Have now set up a email alert, in addition to the text alert.
Will check out smoke signal, infa red and gut feel alerts for this phone. I just hope that it's worth the wait!
