You need to approach the situation with the intent that you are going to leave. What I tend to do is:
-First look around at deals that interest you, check the networks websites or places like dialaphone or buymobilephones etc. Make a note of the best deals, it'll come in handy as they will ask for proof later.
-Phone up Orange Customer Services, go straight through to their disconnections department.
-State that you are in the last 30 days of your contract, you want to request your pac code and close your account.
-They'll ask why, tell them you've found a better deal. They will ask for details, give them the info that you've researched.

-You'll be put on hold whilst they check what they can offer you, then they'll come back with something that is competitive.

thanks for the tips mate, my contract is ending in about 40 days and I was thinking of calling them tomorrow until I read this. I would only be interested in a htc desire z with good deals, otherwise I'd rather leave for giffgaff for a while. it seems desire z is barely mentioned in this thread so I'll not be holding my breath. so I guess I should go straight to desconnection dept when less than 30 days left or hopefully they'll call me.

No they won't (because the cashback isn't a guarantee), sorry. They'll just tell you to go to T...

    Free Desire s

The best plans I've been offered are:
    HTC Wildfire S (free), 18m
    400 xnet mins
    + 200 xnet mins
    300 texts
    Unlimited landlines
    500 mb data
    £25.00 p/m

Sim Only (30 day) valid for 18m
    600 xnet mins
    300 texts
    Unlimited landlines
    £15.00 p/m

I don't really need a new phone right now, so the sim only option seems good and I can get a phone later on, but then I'd have to get an additional data package, what are your thoughts and does anyone know how much an additional data package would cost me.

matrix999 - Tried to negotiate the package you have but they were offering me the same phone at a higher monthly cost and longer contract, the ones above are the cheapest they discussed.
    Nearly debt free

if I were offered the same, I would've asked for my pac code to go for giffgaff right away. their 10 quid goodybag is more than enough for me. the only downside from giffgaff is unlimited landline not being offered since it's a payg service after all.
  • Really hope Orange text me to say the SGS2 is back in stock soon! Been playing around with it at the various mobile phone shops in the City. So much quicker and more powerful than my BB Bold.

Well its been a week and no S2. The CS rep said a couple of days.

Still showing as out of stock on the website.

How can orange not have stock when virtually all other networks seem to have plenty. (obviously too generous. ahem)

The lack of availability of the S2 on Orange is forcing my hand somewhat. Ideally I would like to stay with Orange, but not if I have to wait longer for a phone.

I'm not a massive spender - currently on Dolphin 25, (£5 internet reduction and with £5 loyalty discount:

    200 mins
loyalty 200 mins (which I very rarely use)
    unltd texts
    £15 a month

Am prepared to go up to £25 a month with a free S2 - something that I can get from Mobiles.co.uk which will give me 300 mins, unltd texts and 500mb of data - phone cost of £44.99, but offset by the £50 cashback. I would use this as a bargaining tool with Orange and there are other decent deals with Vodafone so I am certainly not that fussed about moving

Called again today, I had called through to retentions before, but this time I said I wanted my PAC code, as I knew what I wanted from them, I told the guy getting a phone was not worth paying the extra line rental and the sim only offers didn't include data, he said he could sort out the data for me on sim only.

I have accepted, Sim Only (30 day rolling) valid for 18m
    600 xnet mins
100 texts (less texts than before)
Unlimited landlines (main reason for staying)
    500mb data (to use when/if I get a smartphone)
    £15.00 p/m
    Nearly debt free
