Orange Retention Offers

My husband went into the Orange shop today for his upgrade. He was shown the Wildfire for £15 and the Desire for £30 a month. We went to the carphonewarehouse where he was advised he could get the desire or the wildfire for £20 a month on Orange. He went back to the Orange shop who said "No way, not a chance" when he said that he had seen the Desire for £20 a month! the woman didn't even look it up or anything.
Needless to say he went and got it through the carphonewarehouse!Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Orange Retail is a subsiduary Orange company....wiath thier own commisson structure, customer care be non existant depending on the manager on site, most Orange stores tell you to call 150 EVEN when you advise that already didnt help, poor care in Orange shops as Orange UK divided it completely when France Telecom bought Orange, the fact remains is a dealer (CPW) is paid alot more than a Retail commission & Orange bites its own nose despite its face....even retentions cannot match Orange deals through dealers/resellers & that is a waste of money, i'm sure T-Mobile merger may influence the madne$$ of wasting company ca$h instead of less through Orange direct retentions.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

In the end I took the following -
Galaxy S - £9.99
400 mins
Unlimited texts
1gb data
24 months
£15.32 pm
I did ask if any accessories could be chucked in but was told that they stopped doing this about 6 months ago. Interestingly when I questioned about being offered free Orange Care when I first called up I was told that this was a mistake and that they cannot offer it as part of their retentions deals which someone mentioned on here at the time.0 -

I was concerned to read about your experiences with "Wayne". If you can contact us by Facebook or Twitter using the links below, I'd like to try to locate this person and then feed back your comments as a training issue against him. The service you describe really isn't what you should expect from us.
Thanks

Yep, sounds about right, and good on you for shopping around the MSE way. As a thought though, next time, try going to the CPW website via the likes of Quidco/Greasypalm. You should get a nice cashback from the referral site, on top of some cracking online deals. The important thing though, is that you are happy. :j0 -

We looked at TCB and found that you only got cashback as a new customer and not as an exsisting one.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Elsewhere on this forum, a seemingly knowledgeable poster stated that if you pay anything at all for an orange contract handset - even 50 pounds - as opposed to accepting a free one, you can ask for an unbranded handset (Please note, I'm referring to unBRANDED handsets - i.e with ridiculous Orange firmware - and not specifically unLOCKED ones)
I've never heard of this before and it's never been mentioned by Orange, although it's possible it could be one of those obscure things that the average Orange Customer Service bod won't know about and therefore will say is not possible, even if it is.
I'd be grateful for any clarification (is it indeed possible, who do you have to talk to) as I've been offered a retention deal that I probably wouldn't get with upgrades from the Carphone Warehouse etc. However it's getting to the stage where the firmware issue is a
deal-breaker - given that I could switch networks via the CPW or an internet provider, get and unbranded handset and hopefully be able to get a retention deal in future and never have to deal with the branding again.
FWIW off the top of my head the deal was
HTC Desire HD
24 Mths
600 mins
Unltd texts
500Mb internet for 15.75/mth
or 18 mths
200 mins
unltd texts
500 mb for 20.00/mthMy husband went into the Orange shop today for his upgrade.
