  • Hey,

I'm coming up to the end of my 18month contract and trying to decide what to do to get the best deal for the next couple of years. I want one of the new HTC Desire S's when they come out in a couple of months, but my contract finishes at the very start of April, before the Desire S will be out. Currently I have a pretty good deal because of loyalty bonuses (800mins, 300texts, free landline, 100MB - £15), but this will change to a worse deal in April (400mins, 300texts, free landline, £25).

    I'm thinking of two options:

    1. Staying with Orange past my contract until the Desire S has been out a month or two, then phoning up and threatening to cancel unless the give me an offer with one.
    2. Phoning up in the final month of the contract (march) and haggling for an HTC Desire HD free, then flogging this on ebay to pay for most of the cost of the Desire S when it comes out.

I worry that with option 1 I won't get nearly such a good deal because I'm not phoning up in the final month of the contract.

    What do others think?
  • i am royally hacked off now...everyone on here is getting cracking deals

got my PAC code letter with a number to call and was given a rubbish offer again

    Dolphin 25
    HTC Desire £60
    300 mins
    unlim text
    500mb data

    24 months £23.00

this really isn't any better than what they are offering on the web, i have been offered better via virgin but simply wouldn't budge. I have gone over my bills over the last 24 months and overspent on every single one of them.

I know i should just leave at this point but am so cross that I want a better deal -any ideas on what I can do??

    Thanks

Well they are offering 552+60 =612 so here is what I would do. Ring up retentions and ask for a deal on a SIM only package tell them three are offering 300 mins 3000 texts and internet for only a tenner a month and want a good deal. They will hopefully give you a deal under a tenner. Say they give something like you mentioned above for 7 quid 7*24= 168. Buy the desire sim free and new for around 250 or cheaper used.

You need a bit more money initially but its better in the long term. If they still cant give you something you like under a tenner than just get a sim from another provider 240 +250 = 490 your still better off.

Had a quick search and found a good deal on tmobile 300 mins 300 texts and internet and 80 quid for the phone for only 15 quid a month on dialaphone

Thinking of it now you could just quote the above deal to retentions and see what they say. If you can wait in the next few months new phones will be released so this may drive down prices.

This looks like a good deal! Did you get this from Upgrades or Retentions. If from Upgrades, you might get a better deal from Retentions!

This was from retentions. Wanted the phone free really but wouldn't budge - cheaper per month than the £22 ish I pay now though!!

Go for it! Though ask them to double the minutes as they normally do for all retention deals!

Cracking deal I reckon, on a par with mine...only difference is you pay £20 less than me for the phone, but I get unlimited texts and 30 pic messages instead of your Sat Nav. Why not use Google maps instead and see if they will throw in something different instead? I could be wrong, but don't think email is included...it's another £5 option I believe. Let us know how you get on :)

Phew - glad I've done OK!! Looks a good phone doesn't it.

I was a bit unsure about the google maps as I think (could be wrong as previously stated I have no techie knowledge :o) you have to use you data allowance when using it?? I have no clue how long 500mb lasts - but potentially could use a bit if doing a long journey? I could have had insurance for £1 a month instead. Kind of put me on the spot with deciding there and then.............I had already agreed to the deal and he added this on as well. Nice chap!

Just thought re: email - I use gmail mostly, so should be able to access this out of data allowance anyway? Is that correct do you know?

    Thanks for replying!

Yes Google Maps will bite into a data allowance. Not as much as it used to though, as the newer version (v5 and up) use vector based maps instead of tile based.

It also has a benefit of caching the journey and some possible re-routes all at the start, so if you have wifi at home you can set it up before you leave and it should have very minimal data use.

GMail will also take up some of the data allowance, but not a lot (and zero if on wifi), emails are pretty small and the GMail app is push based so it doesn't have to keep polling Google for new mail.
