  • I don't think I'm going to upgrade with Orange.

My contract ends 26th February but I wanted to ask about leaving Orange (if Ishould call 25th January or 26th) so asked about what options I would have.

I only get 50 minutes per month (changed it from 100 so I could get 250mb of Internet - which I don't use as I don't have the phone I was using for that at the moment).

I pay £15 per month and she noticed I have a high number of minutes used but gathered it was from Magic Numbers. Then she said if I wanted the HD it would cost £199.99 unless I went for a hgher tariff because I am on a low tariff and I have high usage (my only high usage is Magic numbers which I only use one of).

Seems a rip off as if I ugraded online on Orange it would be cheaper. Anyway I'll be calling on the 26th to cancel my contract as there's no point, seems thry won't budge as this is the first 24 month contract and I don't think I have gone over for months.

    50 minutes a month?

For 15 quid a month, I get 1000 minutes, free internet and unlimited texts. That's on a rolling sim only contract.

I signed up two years ago on the website and for £15 a month it was 100 minutes, unlimited texts and magic numbers. This was okay for me as prevously I was on pas as you go on Orange and magic numbers was starting to cost a lot as well as texts. For this reason it was fine.

Now that phones are becoming more computer-like, without internet the tariff is of no use. I had an andorid phone for a few months and switched my plan so I can have some internet, but I don't use that anymore. I was thinking if I upgrade they will offer me something better as 50 minutes really is nothing (even if I don't use them - but in a way I don't use them because I'm scared I will go over). It was a lady on the phone so maybe I need to all again in the last month.

    Black Berry bold 9870
    900 mins
    unlimited texts
    unlimited data
    Black berry email.

    £18.86 a month

Told them i was torn between upgrade or sim only deal with tesco (£10 for 500 mins unlimited texts & data) asked what they could offer me. Hmmmm Did i settle too early, guess i still have 7 day cooling off period to re-negotiate a deal.

Hope this helps anyone haggling with orange!

They will almost certainly offer to double your minutes.

I spoke to them again last night, went straight through to retentions, told them that the offer they made me previously didn't measure up to what I was being offered elsewhere so I wanted to get my PAC code. They offered to see if they could make me a better deal and they did (I didn't really want to leave, can't be bothered with the hassle, don't want to faff with temporary numbers, or lose my magic numbers etc).

    I've got

HTC Desire HD, 600 any time any network mins, unlimited texts and 500mb data for £17.42 a month. They couldn't do a discount on the insurance due to FSA regs. So that is more minutes and more texts than I had before and the same data for less money and an amazing phone free.

I also got an HTC desire for the husband on 100 minutes, unlimited texts and 250mb for £15 a month.

Both tariffs she was able to double the standard number of minutes included. Lovely girl called Katie who also offered me some tips on good free apps to download when the phones arrive.

Phone them again (go through to retentions rather than upgrades as they have more authority to make deals) and say that you have been looking at the upgrade deal they offered and are seeing better elsewhere and see what they can offer then. Have in mind whether you want more minutes/texts/data or a free phone as your priority and be prepared to tell them that the first offer isn't good enough.

    Thanks for your post.

Did you call in your last month or before that?

I don't really want to pay another £15 for the month after my contract ends because I'd rather go on giffgaff in that time so should I call retentions before the last month? I willbe calling 25th Jan to give them a 30 (or should I say 31) day notice anyway.

  • My contract had already expired, but apparently the best deals are available in the final month before your contract expires.

    Totally Agree!
  • So what do you recommend to do?

As in, I am with Orange and I am okay with them but soon will no longer need to stay with them for Magic Numbers. This is why I was considering giffgaff, but the downside is that you don't get a phone.

Should I call the day before the last month commences and tell them I want to leave, and get my pac code? Then ring during that last month? I want to make sure I follow the right steps so I don't end up being charged for the month after the contract.
