Orange Retention Offers

Just got an Desire HD on orange but want to put my vodaphone sim in because i've got a lot more minutes on this sim?
Does anyone know if it will need unlocking or will i be able to put my voda sim in it?0 -
My Desire HD was not unlocked, chances are that yours Isnt as well, i think orange charge £20 to unlock the phone.
I think the whole process of unlocking a phone is BS. They put a bar on the phone and charge you to remove it, the same as like removing the music player and chargeing for the code to "unlock" it.
I think the reason they do this, other then to make extra cash from unlocking the phone is to encourage you to use their sim so that you go over your bundles and 'hopefully' spend more money. Anyone tried negotiating an unlock code for their phone when they upgraded with retentions?0 -

You have it totally wrong ! Its some kind of security that you will actually pay your bill ! If you can only use a 02 sim in that phone then even if its a PAYG sim they are getting revenue. Although I think after your contract is up and they have made their money back they should unlock it FOC some still charge0 -

I have been with Orange for almost 2 years (contract ends in February) and I can upgrade now.
I only pay £15 a month but they don't have the phone I want. What's my best bet of getting a good deal? I could possibly get a phone and sell it, then buy the one I want but that depends on how much I can get the phone for. I suppose I have to wait till January so there's one month left before the contract ends.Debt free
2010 £11000/£9000
2011 £509 so far0 -

No disrespect however on such a low tariff I doubt that many phones will be FOC and if you are looking for a high spec Android or N8 for example then you are still probably looking at forking out some dosh for it. The best deal will be when you are almost out of contract less than a month etc.. Crazy I know but they know your spending patterns and 15*24 = £360 quid many of the nicer phones are >£500 plus. Maybe better off as a new customer ?0 -

A security they are willing to forgo for £20?
I really don't think their are that many people that would stop paying their bills if only their phones where unlocked.
It might have a part to play in the whole receive the phone locked process but I doubt that its major. I think its a quick way to make £20 from those that pay and to make people use their contract or stick to orange even after their contract is over. Their might be some other befits to orange, like discouraging selling your contract upgrade on Ebay but like you said some still charge for the unlock code even after the contract end date.
For people that go on holiday/business abroad, that have to use the local sim card it becomes a real pain to have to pay orange for that 'privilege' even after having to pay for the phone and the monthly contract fee.0 -

I don't mind paying for the phone, but not more than £150 on top of the contract for £15 a month. In January I will have one month of the contract left so maybe I should wait but I really want that phone.Debt free
