Had to pay for the phone £140 which isn't too bad considering total is £500 over the length of the contract, tried to get them to push to £100 for the handset but wouldn't budge further

phone should be coming tomorrow, so it looks like the phones in stock. I still have 7 days to think about the offer so please give you're opinions

Decided that I'm going to return the desire HD and wait till my last 30 days of my contract to see if I can get an 18 month deal. I tried to call them a number of times to find out if I could change to an 18th month contract but they said they cant do anything unless i return the handset. Which I thought was a shame since im still pretty happy with it.

I can upgrade on Friday, but was going to call today to see if i can upgrade early, does anybody know if this could happen?

I want the BB torch, so im hoping i can get a good deal on it.

The're quite stiff when it comes to upgrades so I doubt they will let you do it early. Hang on a bit longer for a better deal

Do you mean you're into the last 3 months or you're out of your minimum term ?

If you're in the last 3 months, not a lot. You only get the good deals (as a rule) when you're out of contract or very close to it.

I’ve just been offered the following by Orange retentions:-

I’ve got 7days to change my mind and look at the handset and if I'm not happy I can return it and cancel the contract.

My contract expires on 10/01/11

The chap who I spoke to said that I am currently a band 2 customer so my choice of free handset was limited unless I wanted to spend £30.00 + per month.

He did say that 18months ago I was a band 5 customer but since adding my misses as a magic number and going on to a contract with unlimited texts I had dropped 3 bands because my bills have massively reduced. He also said that Orange no longer offers loyalty discounts like they once did and that most of the more expensive handset would not be in stock for Christmas.

Sorry, i should have clarified, i'm about to go into the last 3 months of my contract.

I've scrapped the BB torch and am now looking at the HTC Mozart 7, which is the new windows phone.
I can get this free on my upgrade, but have yet to see what the plans are like.

Can you get apps on this phone? Like Angry birds and the like?

I was offered rubbish deals into my last 2 and 3 months of contract, once into the last 30 days I was then offered something acceptable

Just a heads up if your having no joy with Orange then Quidco have some decent sim only Vodafone cashback deals currently running.

Does anyone have any info on how the "points" or "bands" work with orange?

Going by a post a couple up, band 5 = £30 per month spend, but what sort of value handset would that entitle you too?

I know there probably wont be a lot of information like this floating around, but would be very interested to know!

Hi,

From having spoken to Orange several times, I believe the Banding system is worked out by averaging your spend (bills) in the last three months. The Banding roughly works out as:

£1- £10 = Band 1 + 2
£10 + = Band 3
£20 + = Band 4
£30 + = Band 5

By being on a certain Band, you accumulate loyalty value 'points', which is essentially a pot of money that Orange can use towards discounting your upgrade deal. More loyalty in the pot means greater flexibility in offering you cheaper line rental costs and/ or free handsets.

Band 5 according to Orange pretty much enables you to get pretty much any handset for free (excluding the iPhone4). As mentioned, this is how I believe the the Banding system works :-)
