My Nokia N8 also came unbranded and unlocked.
Those damn mini Sim cards with converter are terrible though, god only knows if i'll be able to get it back out of the phone now.0 -
after plenty of costly mistakes from orange :mad: during the last few months of my contract, i was determined to leave the network... however, without even trying to get a deal, this is what i was offered
the same contract i had which was
£10, 400 minutes, unlimited texts, 500mb, on an 18 month contract.
now the best part... any phone i wanted, anything from the htc mozart to the blackberry torch (she didnt mention HTC HD). i went for the nokia n8
looks like orange convinced me to stay on!0 -
WOW! That's an amazing offer?!
I wish I had spoken to the same person!I got:
500 mins
unlimited texts and internet
Free HTC Desire
24 months
27.50?!
I clearly haven't spent enough over the last 2 years :eek:0 -
clearly orange haven't messed your account entirely and charged you 1000% of your monthly payment for 2 months
once that happens maybe you'll get the same deal

Finally got round to ringing, and then got through to, Orange.
Have been offered the following on a 24-month deal.
300 cross network minutes
Unlimited texts
500mb internet
Free Nokia X3-02 Touch & Type*
£22.50 per month
So is that a good or reasonable deal? And any thoughts on the phone? Any recommendations?
I'm currently on the old Virgin price match tarrif, so only pay for what I use, which obviously varies a bit depending on work.
I did specifically say a Nokia phone when asked which phones interested me, mainly because I've always had one with no problems, apart from a shortlived spell on a Sony Ericsson which proved to be quite flimsy. I queried other options and was told the Nokia N8 and the 6303i, but she suggested the X3-02 as I'd not used a touch screen before.
Any advice appreciated. I might go somewhere tomorrow where I can have a fiddle with both.
*Incidentally the lady on the phone described this as an 'Android' phone, which I'm pretty certain after a bit of research it isn't!0 -

Thata a terrible deal IMO! the phone itself is valued around £90-150! so your paying around £18.75 a month for 300 minw unltd texts and 500 mb net! On t-mobile i get 600 mins ultd text and 3gb net for £20 and free galaxy s! If you really want that phone i would suggest getting a sim only deal and buying the phone separately and it will be considerably cheaper hope that helps!0 -
Thanks daindian, that does help. I've never had to negotiate a new contract so don't know a) what to expect or b) what to get.
I didn't specifically ask for that phone btw, I only said ideally/specifically a Nokia, and that's purely because I've never had one complaint against the three Nokia's I've had. Any further advice from people is much appreciated.0 -
If you want a touchscreen nokia push for the n8! Otherwise consider an android phone for the apps, such as a samasung galaxy s, htc desire, htc desire hd, Also maybe a phone with pull out keyboard as well as android liek the htc desire z?? You should get a descent retention deal on them , remember you can also, go to carphone warehouse/phones4u to upgarde as well, so enquire in your local branches0

When I spoke to Orange regarding renewing my contract which expires on Christmas Day, they offered me;
HTC Desire HD (or anything except iPhone) for free
400 mins, doubled to 800 mins
400 texts, doubled to 800 texts
500mb data
18 months = £30
24 months = £22
The mins and texts were doubled as when they revied my account I was using about 300 of each and they see it as a "no loss" increase for free at that price.
That was without any haggling or pointing out my second contract with them (for my fiancee) expires the same day as well. At present I spend about £85 a month on my contracts and also have my broadband with Orange. Does anyone think I can get much better from them when I call back? Asked about an iPhone but they won't budge from their standard prices, even when I told them Three offered me as an exisiting customer;
three.co.uk/Phones/iPhone/Plans - iPhone 3GS for free on the £30 or £35 a month tarriff.
Anyone rate my chances of getting them to give me a Desire HD and a Nokia N8 for free for my two contracts with;
800 mins
800 texts
1gb data
Unlimited landline calls
Orange Maps
18 months = £22
