My husband started his own business last year so we took out a business phone with Orange. It's just up for renewal now but the package we have is way too high for his usage. I don't think we have to stay as a business customer, in fact I don't know why we did it in the first place!
Anyway this is what we'd like - what do you think we should ask for:
He has a blackberry that he isn't bothered about replacing
He wants emails to get through instantly
Approx 500 - 600 calls - at the mo he has free landline
    Texts - say about 3-5 a day
At the mo we pay £40 p/m for 1000 mins and unlimited landline/emails
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

A little help please as I am not familar with a few concepts.

I do not want to continue with my Orange contract which has finished & join another phone co. after a few months with the same number.

If I request a PAC code , is their an expiry date to port the number??

Or, If I turn over to a PAYG can I ask Orange for a PAC later when I join the new operator???

    Cheers in advance.

You can ask for a pac (which lasts for 30 day) to move to another network.

You can ask them to move your number on to payg, and they'll send you out a payg sim (you MUST register this for your contract to end). If you then want to move to another network, just ask for the pac for the payg (all pac codes last 30 days).

If you exceed the 30 days, just ask for another pac code.

    As an alternative -

i'm thinking of upgrading free to the latest NOKIA or SAMSUNG etc - thus keep my loyalty discount of £22.00 a month line rental

    - Sell said new phone for at least £200? and put that money towards an IPHONE4.

    - Insert orange sim into the new Iphone.

This mean I will have new IPhone4 for £300 and line rental of £22.00 a month.

    Is this possible?

Only problem I can see is trying to get a Micro Chip from orange? think I could get them to upgrade my sim to put in my new NOKIA or SAMSUNG? and obviously not let on what i'm doing?

This is what i've been thinking of doing. I went through retentions last year and got down to 800 mins/ unltd texts/ unltd internet for £25 a month.
This time i'm debating either sticking with this contract, or lowering it if they'll let me and getting the Blackberry bold for free, that's around £300 on PAYG and selling it on, or going for an inexpensive phone but knocking my contract down to as low as possible.

Also i'm unsure when to try and go for retentions this time...because I was abroad during the volcano, one of my bills was £130. I know they judge what band you are by the last 6 months spend. But also that the closer you get to your contract expiring the more likely you are to get a better deal.
So I don't know whether to call 1 month before my contract expires when the £130 bill is still within the last 6 months, or to call a couple of days before my contract expires, but the £130 bill won't count then?

The orange system of upgrading via the website isnt working for me, i was told i could upgrade as an alternative to waiting for a text from orange to say a desire is in and its yours. I cant upgrade to the desire as it wont let me plus the desire is out of stock so its about as much use as a chocolate fireguard

lol yeh i get what you mean, maybe ill give it a shot, yes im wary of the text not being sent or gone missing somehow,

    thanks

Each time you ring in to Orange, it affects your loyalty budget. The more you ring in, and the more times they go into your account into the loyalty area, it affects your budget if you dont accept the deal, which, if the phones out of stock, you cant. Be wary of that.

Seaniboy is wrong in saying they texts arent always sent out. They are.
