well, I'm obviously doing something wrong. the best Orange customer service would offer me is £100 for the phone, and a renewal of the rate I am currently on for another 18 months.

as far as I can tell, phones4u will give me a deal for Orange Dolphin 30 with a free phone and more minutes over 18 months, which works out cheaper.

when I rung Orange retentions to tell them this, they basically told me goodbye, and they still can't tell me when they'll have the phone in stock, even though I was advised earlier this week it will be today.

how are other people getting better deals and is anyone actually being told when this phone will be in? My whole family have been with Orange for years. Not much sign of loyalty rewarded as far as I can see. How bad can phones4u be?

The phone was meant to come Thursday, be in stock Friday. Delivery never showed. It came Friday, so should be in stock Monday. Also, Im sorry its a bit blunt but it doesnt matter if you have been with them for 10 years or 2 years, whether all your family is with them or not. It comes down to how much profit Orange make on your account over the last 18months. Thats how Mr. X gets 1200 mins for £15 a month, and Mr. Y gets 500 mins for £20 a month. If the staff basically said bye, your best off going, as you obviously dont have enough points to make you an offer worth while. Sorry if Im blunt, but hope it helps.

You can't cancel AND get a pac. Its one or the other.
If you cancel the contact ends in 30 days and the numbers lost.
If you take your pac, when you use it your old contact end and the number gets transferred to your new network.
Thanks for your reply but I dont fully understand what you are saying and I dont want to get stitched up by Orange.
Firstly you have written contact but do you mean contract or is this something different.
Secondly you say cant cancel and get a pac code but this does not make sense to me. If you are leaving the network and want to port your number then you are entitled to a pac code to do this. How can you transfer without leaving the present network?

That's what I would like but the only time I rang up I got offered the same deal in both upgrade and retentions! I thought retentions would offer better than upgrades but noooo....

They offered me 100mins, unltd texts and unltd internet for £20 p/m with £150 for phone (24months) not very good!!

I want what you got offered...

how many times have you called up ?

i called twice last week and the second time she offered me the same as the first time i called, when i called yesterday i asked for my pac code and the guy said he would check on the system to see if there was anything he could do for me. He offered me the £20 deal for 400 mins, ultd txts and internet for 24 months, he said the phones are likely to be available wednesday(after testing) and id get a text saying when i can call

Firstly, sorry for bad spelling ! Contact should indeed read contract.

There are 2 different mechanisms here.

When you ask to cancel, you're asking to end your contract with no other actions taking place. After 30 days your contract ends and your number gets returned to the recycle pot. End.

If you ask for your pac code, then your contract ends only when you use it. You old network sends you your final bill, your new network takes over your number.

In both cases your contract ends but in slightly different ways.
If you want to keep your number you must ask for a pac code. If you ask to cancel you will lose your number.

Also, if you ask to cancel (which will end the contract in 30 days) but within those 30 days call in and ask for your pac then the 30 days is cancelled and your contract will not end until you use the pac (because if the current network ends the contract before you use the pac you have no number to transfer).

I've called up upgrades just to see, then I called up retentions and that was it.

The thing is i'm prepared to go on a higher tariff because I know its an expensive phone....but they offered me my own tariff that im on with an extra fiver for internet - so £20 ....then £150 for phone

I'd rather have some more minutes plus ultd text and ultd internet for a higher tariff price, rather than paying for the handset.....

Bit like the new customer deals.....

I'm not specifcally looking for a great deal that is similar to mine now - cos I know they hardly make any money from me as I'm very low deal - but I'm prepared to go higher....but instead they just offer same tariff with a charge for the phone

    Was just offered:

    200 minutes
    unlimited internet
    unlimited text
    Free LG Optimus
£16 per month for 24 months

Do you think this is any good?

if you would rather pay more each month then can you not say that but pay less for the phone outright

No, upgrades doesnt work like that, either through upgrades, or retentions. Its a bit messed up but thats how the system works. The pricing is based on your previous spend and customer band. So a band 3 will pay £150 whether theyre on a £15 p/m tariff or £40 p/m.

It doesnt reflect the new customer prices, but the reason for this is: Orange doesnt make enough money off the customer, so really they dont want to give you the phone free either way, as they have previously made little on the account.

    Hope this helps.
