Everytime you phone up you could get a different deal. If you have been offered something previous it is no way gauranteed, as Retentions are not a sales dept, as the deals they usually give are non profitable or very low profit.

Where did you hear it was earlier? Its coming in end of the week, available start of next week. You heard it here first.

when i called orange and asked when the desire would be available and she said "its likely the phone wouldnt be with you till this time next week"

i chose the "i am thinking of leaving orange and i think she said it was upgrades dept, is the retentions what i would get passed to if i didnt like what upgrades offered me, "

  • Hi folks,

Approaching the golden upgrade time on my Orange contract and thinking about getting a HTC Desire. Heard it's a wonderful device. Problem is that I wouldn't mind staying with Orange, but I would like to change to a SIM only plan (30-day rolling) purely for the freedom of it.

I have been told by several people at Orange (on the phone) that I can convert my contract to a SIM only plan, but doing so the cost of the handset would be substantial.

The thing I'm wondering is if it would be cheaper to get a SIM free HTC Desire (around £400) now, or wait a month and see how much I can get the handset for from Orange and weight up wether it would be cheaper to stick to my contract and get the HTC Desire on contract renewal.

The contract I am on is Dolphin 25, but the plan is costing me £20 a month (with the Internet pack).

If anyone has any insight in to costings I would be most greatful if they could be posted here.

    Thanks!

anyone got any advice as to what I should ask for?
  • I am currently on the Dolphin 30 (400 mins, unlimited texts) tariff but only paying £20 inc 500Mb internet. My contract runs out on August 16th and I rang Orange today to see what they could offer on the HTC Desire front. They only two offers they would give me are:

    18 Months
    400 Mins
    Unlimited Texts
    500Mb
    £22.50 Per Month
£50 off the phone bringing it down to £100.

OR The other deal offered was:
    24 Months
    400 Mins
    Unlimited Texts
    500Mb
    £17.50 Per Month
    Phone for £100.

Neither of these deals appeal to me. I don't want a 2 year contract and I certainly don't want the same minutes/texts as I currently get for MORE money that I currently pay. So much for customer loyalty bonuses eh.

Thats what they offered me. I however have 600 minutes (200 loyalty) and same texts but with 25MB internet for £20. I went to Phones 4 U and they kept me on that tariff for 18 months and gave me the phone free.

I did tell them a lie, Orange wanted £150 for phone and retentions wanted £100. I told Phones 4 U they wanted £50 and they went that step further. He did say that the Desire shouldn't have been offered on upgrade in end, though other members will probably say that it was all !!!!!!!!.

Anyway I have 600 mins, unlimited texts and I've had to add 500mb data for £5 a month, so now at £25. But I did get the phone free, so think I ended up with a good deal.

No I just rung them up and told them my contract was due up in a couple of months and what was the best deal that they could offer me.

I will leave it a few weeks and then call back to see if there is anything better they can offer me.

I would be interested in hearing about that too. I hate dealing with P4U but if they can give me a better dealt then I would listen to their offers.
