    How random.

    I'd last week been offered

18 months at £25pcm (no loyalty bonus)
£80 one off for the HTC Desire
600 minutes, unl texts, unl data

Phoned back today to accept, as I'm only going to flog the Desire anyway.

They clearly ballsed up the notes somewhere as the lady said "Just to confirm, was that £50 for the Desire?"
I agreed, smirking and thought I'd try my luck, said "and £20pcm after the loyalty bonus..."

She said okay, I'll just put that through.
So 18 x £20 and £50 one off for 600mins/unl texts/unl data and an HTC Desire.
Then flog it online and consider whether I want an iPhone 4.

    Deal?

Hey, coming to the end of my Orange contract soon, what is the earliest I can phone up for my PAC code and leave (or threaten to!) My contract ends on August 20th, but I'm sure I remember reading that you can get your PAC code anytime in the last 30 days of your contract.

Currently on Dolphin 30, but paying £20 due to dialaphone offer. Also got 250mb for £5 a month. Hoping to get HTC Desire on 18mths for £25 with free phone.... any chance of that?

Just spoke to Orange and they said that my 600 mins, unlimited texts and 25MB data each month will carry on until 2012 for £20 a month.

However the guys at Phones 4 U said come the end of my earlier contract, they might up the price or change my tariff. The women on the phone seemed to assure me it would carry over.

So essentially I bagged a free Desire on another 18 month contract remaining at £20 a month. However Orange want £5 for 500mb of internet each month. However she needs to delete my loyalty bonus of 25MB to add 500mb. It obviously would be beneficial for me to do this owning a Desire, but I tried to wrangle another loyalty deal to no avail.

    Anyone have thoughts?

No Chance on getting the desire for free unless you spent alot of money per month. If your contract ends Aug 20th, ring up July the 21st. 30 days exactly. Pac Code is posted out.

Dont listen to P4U, or the Carphone warehouse. They are cowboy companies how can people not see this? They will tell you anything to get a sale. Orange will not, and can not, up your cost of line rental when your in a contract.
  • Just curious as to how you've managed to get any deal with Orange today for the HTC Desire.

I'm not out of contract but have 2 months left and therefore am eligible for upgrade, was waiting for the iPhone 4 prices to come out before making decision but was definitely leaning toward the Desire.

Phoned Orange on the weekend to ask what sort of deal they would do me for the Desire, and they said because it's out of stock (which is what it says on their website as well) they can't discuss any deal for me, or reserve one. All they could do is what their website is offering; an email when the Desire is back in stock so I can phone and discuss the deal with them then.

Is this a scam on Orange's part to get me to order the more expensive iPhone? Or did I get a member of staff who just didn't know what they were doing?

Its not a scam. The phone is out of stock. Once it is in, its madness and its really busy for an hour or two, the phones gone again, usually for a week at least.

Please be patient and just keep checking. It wont be in stock til next week though, at the earliest. Also, even if the phone is out of stock, they can offer you a deal, but usually wont as they get bonus for sales / conversion of calls, so if its out of stock, they wouldnt usually bother, as the majority of time when they do, and agree a call back, the customer rings in and speaks to someone else due to impatience.

  • Thanks for that Mark22, I was wondering what was happening when I saw multiple posts about Orange deals.

As you seem to know what's going on, I guess that means that unless I reply immediately when I get my "back in stock" email that I won't get one of the next batch either? Is it any more likely that if I go through phones4u or carphone warehouse that I will get one that way, or is it best to wait for Orange as they can offer the best discount?

I'm not in any major rush for a new phone, but my current one is a pile of pants (won't name it but it's the 2nd one I've had since my contract started and now it's about to go). Finally made the decision to upgrade to a smartphone and now I can't get hold of one. :(
