Orange Retention Offers

Daggy,I have the text and previous texts they changed after verbally agreeing minutes earlier on the phone a different deal and they know that, but still told me they will not honour it.I have written to customer services and spoken to Trading Standards who advised they are looking into numerous cases of a similar nature with the phone providers0

What were you offered originally, and then what were the changes they made?0 -
guys just wondering. about 9 months ago i was offered a retentions contract. £10/month for loads of stuff, a really good deal. Are they likely to "continue" that deal when my 18 months are up? Despite my contract being £10/month, i usually run into £10 worth of charges making it £20/month0

Teamcullen, the offer was 18 month contract with a Vivas @£20 per month for 400 minutes 550 Texts unlimited Landline and Internet, and i agreed £56 for the phone and i have that in writing. They tried to change the phone to £59 [i can live with that] but they dropped the texts to 300 which is no use to us because historically we use 450/500 per month.0

Hi everyone
I'm having a very indecisive time with my next upgrade. I've been with orange for a number of years and my current contract ends on May 17. As my phone was nicked I thought I might as well upgrade early.
Retentions offered me 800 min, 500 texts, unl landline, internet + blackberry curve 8520 for £20 a month on an 18 month contract. I accepted but I am having doubts as I feel I could get better! I will be returning the phone and cancelling this upgrade so I can go through the haggling process again!
My husband just got a great new contract with T mobile with a T mobile pulse (great phone) 600 min, 500 text, unl internet and landline calls for £20/m on a 24 month contract - they also gave him a month free! I know it's 24 months, but it's still really good - I feel disappointed for not getting something loads better from orange with my loyalty!
Orange's offer is better than my last contract (700 min, 100 txt + unl landline for £20/m for 18 months) but I see these third parties offering cashback and wiis with a new contract and I'm really tempted to go for one. It is tempting to upgrade somehow so I can keep my orange wireless home broadband + international calls for £5 a month. I will try to haggle Orange down to giving me a cheaper deal... I may have to wait until the last couple of weeks of my contract!
Maybe I'm being too demanding but I've got nothing to lose!0 -
llama13 i might be wrong but i think its too late to haggle again. i think you got a pretty good deal. don't know about blackberrys much but i know people rate them high0

Im out of contract with Orange. My contract is for £35/month. Im getting 600mins and unlimited texts and have the bolt on Internet. I never go over the 600 mins. Typical bill is for £50 - £60 a month. It's usually out of plan stuff that puts me up there.
What could I reasonably expect to get from Orange?
I had planned to do a SIM only rolling contract option but then would have to buy a phone as well. Monthly cost of about £20. Some of the retention deals are about £20 a month and I save the cost of a new phone.
What phone should I get? I've had Sony Ericssons for the last few years. C905 currently and like them. I had planned to go the iPhone route but for the same upfront cost I can get the 64GB Touch which more like the size music player I need for the amount of music I have. It does everything the iPhone does bar make calls. I use my phone a lot for my business so Im not sure battery would last if I used it for music player and Internet too. My wife has one and Im estimating by what her battery does.
So the phone I need doesnt need to be anything too fancy. Orange website for sports scores and checking my email when out and about is about the hight of it. I can everything else through the Touch. Though if I get something good for free, I'll not say no.
As a side note, Im currently with Virgin for my home broadband, Im about to switch land line and broadband all to Sky. What are the chances of getting free broadband from Orange as part of the deal?
Cheers.0 -

Thanks DomTom - perhaps I am wanting too much and I agree it is a good deal. Orange said if I cancel the upgrade within 7 days it will put me back to where I was with my last contract, so I would have to re-negotiate an upgrade contract.
Tony Cluedo - I think you should call Orange and speak to retentions (dial 150, then options 1-4-2) if you're out of contract you're in a great position as you can go to any other network so they will try to hold on to you. Just say 'I'm thinking of leaving, what can you offer me? If it's really good I'll consider staying, otherwise I'm off to get a great deal elsewhere!'
You've got nothing to lose and you don't actually have to leave during that phonecall, just say you'll think about it.
I was really surprised the first time I called to upgrade, I had been on a £35/m contract, and they kindly offered to put me on another £35/m contract with a £5 discount + £10 loyalty discount = £20/m.
Figure out the out of plan stuff that is costing you extra and see if you can get a deal that includes it. I don't think they are offering the free broadband to new customers anymore.
Good luck!0 -
Ok, just dipping my toe in the world of iphones.
i'm currently on Dolphin 30 and on average use 200mins and 400 texts a month. Currently on Sony Ericcson w980.
I'm in an 18 month contract due to finish in June but am eligible for upgrade now.
On Orange I can get:
8gb iphone for £99 - 18 months - £35
600 mins
500 texts
unlimited data and wifi
or
8gb iphone free - 24 months - £35
600 mins
ultd texts, data and wi-fi
this is upgrading not through retentions although I have heard they are the same people!?. If I were to cancel my contract now it would cost £56.84 (I'm considering it to move to O2 where I can get 600mins, ultd texts, data, wi-fi for £40pm and £89 16gb handset)
£35 per month is within my budget but i'm really not keen on a 24 month contract and an 8gb seems pointless to me.
Any thoughts would be welcome, not sure whether to jack it all in and got for a free blackberry instead.
I'm monitoring the cheap iphone discussion thread too for tips but I'm finding it all abit overwhelming.0 -
Hey dustystar02.. don't panic.. there is a lot of noise out there.
First off.. if you want to stay with Orange forget retention departments etc etc.. you'll get no special offers on an iPhone. So the price you have is the price you will pay.
Next.. "8GB seems pointless".. really? The Blackberry stores UP TO 8GB and you sound happy with that?
You need to consider what you want to store on your phone.. if you really need to store more than a couple of movies, 1000 odd songs and a couple hundred photos. sure you need a bigger memory phone.. otherwise it is plenty enough for most.
Next thing to do is to look here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-iphone all the info you need for the cheapest iphone today.
Last things to consider:
- can you afford the £440 for a PAYG iPhone today and run it on your existing sim? If you can you might want to consider keeping your existing package and stay out of contract for a while. With a strong possibility of a new iPhone being announced in June you can sell the iPhone on eBay in a couple of months and use the money on a new iPhone contract.. (if you do make sure you add a data bundle to your tariff as a temp measure)
alternatively..
Just because your contract is ending you don't have to jump into a new one.. your tariff will just continue until you are ready to move.. take your time!0
