  • glad this thread is active again.. hopefully I'll have more of a response to my query:

I've been with Orange for years, been very complacent so I haven't upgraded when I should have done and am now 3 years out of contract and haven't had a new mobile for 4 years.

I have been offered the following:
    800 minutes
    800 texts
    unlimited landline minutes
    unlimited data
    magic number
continue to get my orange home broadband for free

    for £20 per month with free Nokia 5800;
for £25 per month with free Nokia X6, HTC Hero
for £20 per month + one off £50 for Nokia X6, HTC Hero, or
for £25 per month + one off £50 for Sony Satio

just wondered how this compares to everyone else. I wont use that many texts but may use the minutes. do you think I can get the cost of the line rental down by reducing the texts? I dont want to lose the free home broadband.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

I doubt you'd be able to get the cost of line rental down by reducing the amount of texts, as the texts cost the network practically nothing. Id go for the Nokia X6 if you can get the one off cost reduced abit

Hi I have spoken to orange three times this week because I have three mobiles on contract which expires in four weeks,I have taken the names of all the employees and written down what they have offered and said, earlier today i called to agree the next contract from the infi i got on Friday afternoon. The operative advised that the girl had got it wrong and the phone i was offered was not available on that plan!! Ok after some slight movement with the texts and minutes it was all agreed and i requested they text the agreed contract,10 minutes later the texts arrived and I could not believe what they had written because two of the three deals had been completely changed and they had withdrawn the unlimited Landline calls we had agreed.I called Orange again and was advised that was the deal {BUNCH OF LIARS}I requested they listened to the recorded conversations i have had previouslly because i had the times and all the names, they adised it was not possible so i requested a call from someone senior GUESS WHAT STILL WAITING FOR THE CALL!!!!!!

For your reference, I managed to get this deal :-

    HTC Hero
    18 month contract
    400xnetwork minutes
    300 texts
    Unlimited landline
    Unlimited internet
    500mb laptop dongle

£0 up front fee for the phone

£15 per month. Negotiated this on Friday - I could have also had a Nokia X6 or Sony Ericsson Vivaz on same terms.

Damn, damn, damn. It was a week-long toss up between the Hero and X6, and went for the Hero after some advice.

Why do you think the X6 is superior?

I have 7 days starting from when I get the Hero to exchange.... Please bear in mind that music and video is not important to me on my chosen phone, as I have the ipod touch for that.

http://www.testfreaks.com/ plus check other reveiw sites then checkout the X6 on nokia.co.uk or look at them in a shop.
The X6 is New and the hero is old with crap reveiws my battery has had one or tow charges since thursday and the phone has been hamered with blue tooth etc.
The Nokia also has two year warrenty 16 gb in built and is very nice to hold and use my 11 year old set it up before i could even look at it.
I thought about the hero then read the reveiws and held it in a shop and the camera is good too.
But most of all it is a NOKIA and i love them.
Also a few people at different carphone warehouse stores and some staff at orange dont recomend the hero.

Thanks for that. Your comments are appreciated, and I may well have another look at a Nokia X6, but one flaw in your reply... On glancing at the review scores on Testfreaks, the HTC Hero is rated more highly! I'll continue to mull my decision over, especially once the Hero arrives on Tuesday...

thanks for your reply, do you have free home broadband? I think the reason why they aren't offering me the newer phones for free is because they are saying that i'm using up my loyalty by continuing to have free home broadband.
