So I'm pretty sure I'm going to give them a ring to attempt to sort this out, but I thought I'd pop on here to ask for a few tips first. Any ideas? Do you reckon I'll actually be able to get the handset for free if I ask? Any other ideas as to how I could get the best deal for myself? To give you an idea of my call/text usage I've gone over my allowance on the Dolphin 25 a few times but have managed to mostly stay within my limits. And when I call them should I go for the option for those who 'want to upgrade' or for those who are 'thinking of leaving Orange'?

There's no point going for the 'thinking of leaving Orange' route, because you can't. Your contracts not up.

As above, you will always get a better deal when you're out of your minimum term.
You can ask, but you're unlikely to get a really great deal until you're out of your current term...

    Hi,
I'am currently payinging £20 a month for 200 minutes and unlimited text.
My contract is due to run out soon and i am interested in a blackberry.
I phoned orange last night and the deal they offered me was
    A blackberry 8900
    400 Minutes
    unlimited texts
    unlimited internet/email
at a cost of £20 amonth for 24 months

Thats not bad at all.. however i am always one to push for more. As you cant have unlimted landline and texts I would suggest this line "I am a bit worried I may go slightly over those minutes and as I have not got free landline calls is there anything you can do with the minutes" Its quite possible they will give you extra minutes

See my posts to see two recent deals I got on the 8900

Hmmm think you might be wrong there Jon as the deal I got recently I was not out of contract just due for upgrade and I haggled hard and got a pretty good deal :-)
  • You most definitely get the best deal by calling, not by going through the website and seeing whats available to you

Frittaker I would give upgrades an opportunity first and then take it from there. if at first you ont succeed try, try again

Ok, they may have 'soften' the rules in that case...

Best bet, wait for lufcgirl to come on she works in that dept and can give you a definitive answer.

Or just call and see what that say, it certainly won't hurt to try. . .
  • I have always haggled at upgrade point and have been with Orange many years. My new contrcat just fyi is

    400 min
    550 text
    unlimited landline
    unlimited internet
    BB Bold
    18 month contract
    £20 a month

    2nd contract I negotiated

    1200 min
    800 text
    unlimited landline
    unlimited internet
    BB Bold
    24 month contract
    £20 a month

    3rd contract

    800 min
    800 text
    unlimited landline
    unlimited internet
    BB Bold
    24 month contract
    BB Bold

These obviously reflect different users who have built up different loyalty. the first contract took 6 days of over the phone haggling with each day them saying thats the best they can do. Even after accepting the contrcat I rang back and said I realised it wouldnt be quite suitable and they gave me more

The second contrcat was 2 days of negotiating and nearing close I stated that i was worried there was not much of a margin for error with going over min and her straight away offered to double it.

If you dont ask you dont get and its not set in stong so you can put the feelers out

As I have said in previous posts i have concerns about the advice given by "orange staff" and although i am just a consumer, I think thats where the best info comes from ;-)

    Goodluck

Well I have to go for a haircut now anyway so may as well just wait for lufcgirl! Cheers for the advice so far chaps, will see what she has to say then give Orange a ring soon.

Sounds about right on an 18 month contract, they let you do it a little early

    Hi All

    Two things.

Firstly, and I'm not sure if anyone could comment, but when attempting to strike a deal today with Orange retentions which I didn't conclude, I mentioned that I was thinking about an iPhone as an alternative but appreciated that they didn't do loyalty deals on those. I was told by the advisor, quote "Because vodafone are doing competitive deals now we've been told that we may be offering a loyalty deal on iPhones from 1st Feb, or soon after - so suggest you phone back then."

Any comment from LUFCgirl or anyone else heard this? It does kind of make sense that this happens to a limited degree at some point - it makes no sense to lose good customers.

In the meantime I was offered:

    Blackberry Bold 9700 Free
    400 mins
    300 texts
    500mb Data
Unlimited Blackberry add-on (isn't this unliimited data as well?)
    £25 a month - 18 month contract.

I have no idea if that's good or not or how loyal that implies I am! I know that the phone is one of the dearer ones. Be good if anyone can comment.

    Cheers!
