TG01 was a pricey handset a couple of months back, so BB Bold would probably be around the same price if not a little more.

If you could live without the landline minutes, I'd have gone for the 24mth contract Panther 25 web, 400mins (ask if they can double it), unlimited texts and unlimited BB Internet+E-Mail for £20 p/m.

naughty naughty, just checked online and she is not actually in contract. When she sent back the toshiba they just kept her on her old rolling contrcat.. bit offended they did not tell me this when we just spoke.

So basically she does not need that many texts and I might speak to them about what you have suggested
  • the landline is better for her as she does not text that much? 400 would be enough

In that case, they can get an average of how many minutes she's used in the past three months. If it's well under 400, do you want to be paying an extra £7.50 p/m on the basis she's maybe going to use the landline minutes someday?

Other than that, when you return an upgrade your in effect cancelling the contract, so any deal you've been given will be taken away to allow you to renegotiate your new contract. As you may not be able to get the discounts or extras with a different handset.
  • Can you help please.
It's my 4th time renewing my contract with orange, currently paying £20 month. They are offering me exactly the same minutes

    600mins
    100texts
    Unlimited internet

but now £27 month!! How does that make sense!!

That was for Nokia 5800 or Blackberry curve! Surely they can do better! I'm boringly loyal, but I'm not paying more for the same!

Can I argue for a better deal? I do have Broadband through orange also, does that help?

    TIA
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!

The broadband doesn't help, it's just a seperate thing. How many minutes and texts are you using on average? Rather than just wanting to stick with what you've got, have a dig around and see what you can do.

For example, for £20 a month Orange have two tariffs
Racoon - 200 mins, 300 texts and unlimited landline calls. Or
Dolphin - 200mins and unlimited texts

Now if you look through your bills, see if either of these would be enough. You could use more landline minutes than anything else! If you use around 400 minutes, ask if they can add extra minutes onto your new plan, sometimes it is possible.

The handset itself has no bearing on it, so regardless of what plan your moving to (as long as they don't discount the plan anymore) it would still be free.

Edit to add: Internet is £5 p/m extra, nobody can waive the charge to make it free anymore. So in effect if you still wanted free internet they would have to add a £5 credit to every bill taking money away from your handset upgrade. The 5800 is the most viable option if this is possible because it's a cheaper phone.
  • just checked her account, over the last 18 months her bills have been between £30-£50?? and they told me the reason they couldnt offer a better deal or 18month contract " because she never goes over" . Well she clearly does...

Her min were 600 min which she is going over every months (however she has only just realised about magic no.) but is only doing approx 200 texts out of her 500

I feel like Orange have been rather sneaky this evening indeed. not happy

How have they been sneaky? If it's about returning someone to the original tariff I think a little common sense is needed here. Why should someone still be entitled to a promotional tariff when Orange don't even know if the customer will now even stay with the company?

With regards to the deal, without looking at the account I wouldn't know how much she goes over or what she uses. If you have an idea of how many minutes and texts you want and what handset then call them and say that. If the price is too high, see if they can go any lower. If they can't then they can't and you'd need to consider your options. At the end of the day Orange are a business and have to make profit from you, if they can't do that then they can't offer the deal.

Your misunderstanding me completely. I had a 30 minute conversation with rententions and I repeatedly talked about the contract that i though she was still in... not once was I corrected by the gentleman on the other end. So there i was, talking.. believing she was still in contract but trying to negotiate a different handset. I made it very clear that that was my belief of the situation. Not once was I corrected. I call that sneaky, I do not see how I was lacking in common sense?

Secondly the man told me that the reason they could not offer her the same deal as me was because she was "sensible and didnt go over like I did" BULLLLL I have just checked her online bill. So he lied

I am going by what i was originally told when upgrading my own phone, unless of course orange make it up as they go along?? They discussed my loyalty etc and what my worth was and I also happen to know what my OH worth was. Now if my sister spends more than me every single month and goes over her rental every month and pays her bill on time every month I would consider her worth to be similar to mine if not, alot more as she spends min 15 more than me. Thats just using my common sense.

Now I am pretty sure that that is not the best offer, I know that because my retention offer was much better. I think i am right in saying that she is a pretty good customer worth making an attempt to retain her 1. she has a reasonably expensive plan, 2. she always goes over, 3. she pays by dd on time.

Perhaps I am lacking in common sense as you put it when i ask the question, why cant they offer her a better offer? I mean does it depend on your voice, what day you call or what lol??

Guess it will have to be the usual of threatening to leave or just leaving anyway and go through a third party offer

Your retention offer has no bearing on your sisters retention offer. The system generates the loyalty points based on factors, of which I don't even know most of them. But for example, some of the things go as far as to include which networks you call, can you honestly say you and your sister call the same networks for the same length of time each month?

The deal you got is the standard Racoon 25 websave plan, with 200 extra minutes and 250 extra texts, and the BB bundle on top at £5 per month. Now my guess is, because you very rarely go over 150-200mins per month the system will offer to double up the minutes because realistically, they think you'll never use them. Same goes for the texts.
Your sisters contract however, if she regulary goes over her minutes, Orange won't allow us to double up the minutes, because, lets face it, she's going to use them all and then some at a cheaper price than anyone else. That said, if the handset is cheap enough they'd lower the price down with the remaining 'points' left. It's a clever game, like poker really with all this bluffing and counter offers.
The system will sometimes let us double minutes on a 24mth contract because of the longer contract length (thats what I think anyway), which is why she's getting the much better offers through that.

I'm in no way at all trying to be horrible, rude or patronising. I just find it incredibly frustrating I can't even find out for you what the cheapest deal would be, but on the other hand, I have to admit I think the days of really cheap contracts are going fast too.
