Decided to get on the phone to Orange this evening and have got the following new contract:
400 anytime mins
Unlimited texts
Nokia 6700
All for £15 a month on an 18 month contract. Seeing as my usage never goes above 150 - 200 mins, I should be covered in all eventualities and very happy with the new phone. Was offered the same contract, but with a 6303 for £10 a month - I was happy to pay the extra £5 for the 6700 though - still saving £10 a month, so all good. Thanks to all the posters for sharing their experiences and advice.0 -

ah right ok cheers thanks0 -
Just phoned Orange:
100 minutes
Unlimited texts
80mb of internet
Nokia 5800
(18 month contract)
£15 per month.
I phoned Orange and spoke to a very nice Cheryl Cole soundalike. I asked for the exact same package as you and got
200 minutes
Unlimited texts
80mb of internet
Nokia 5800
(18 month contract)
I had to pay a fiver upgrade fee but no worries. The strange thing is they couldn't offer the same deal to my partner, we joined Orange at the same time 18 months ago on the same contract and she probably uses it more than me !!
Anyway they did reduce her line rental to £13.50 but I had to pay a £15 upgrade fee. The extra mins would have been nice but she'll never use the internet anyway.
So overall a happy chap. Thanks to everybody on this thread.:beer:0 -
Just phoned orange to upgrade as my contract ends in two weeks.
I currently pay £20pm and i wanted to keep the same plan dolphin 35. I was offered absolutely pathetic deals which are more expensive than what a pay now!
I,ve been with orange for years and always got a good retention deal from them until today!
The cs operator could,nt care less that i was going to leave orange so i gave 30 days notice and requested my pac.
Orange,s loss not mine but it,s a strange way to run a business by not caring less about loyal customers and letting them go....So it,s either O2 or Vodafone who,s going get my money in the future!0 -
Depends how you look at it really, there's no point retaining a customer that won't make the company any money0

Of course i,m making the company money, maybe not enough in their eyes but it,s more than enough money for me to spend on a phone contract.
They offered that package (dolphin 35) for £25pm with one of the low range phones not a top of the range phone.
Anyhow just come off the phone to Vodafone and they can give me sim only deal with 600 mins & u/l texts for £10pm, so it seems that Vodafone can make money on the same package that i wanted from Orange!0 -

Well why do Orange have a "retention" department then? Surely a better business model is to keep at least an 80% retention rate of loyal customers at the same tariff. Also it's worth keeping someone for 10years at say £25 p.m. apposed to more short term customers who are more prone to switch every 18/24mths.
The iphone has caused a reduction in the usual high level of service I have been used to with Orange over the past decade.
I really think that they do not care any more in existing customers and are only interested in new iphone sales as the mark up is much greater. This is obviously understandable but hardly inspires you to continue with them.0 -
Depends what you consider a low range phone I suppose, Voda won't have to subsidise a new handset on a sim only deal, thats the difference.
As for the iPhone, Orange make alot less money from it than you might think as Apple take a large chunk of any profit, and 90% of the iPhones sold have gone to existing customers0
