Orange Retention Offers

  • Well after getting annoyed with Orange refusing me a new phone I decided to give T-Mobile a call and see what deals they could offer me as a new customer on the HTC Hero (G2). The lady there was pretty nice and after being told what Orange had offered me I was offered:

    700 Minutes
    Unlimited Texts
Unlimited Internet (which I believe has a bigger allowance than Orange anyway)
    The phone for FREE
    All for £27/month.

Decided to phone Orange back to let them know what I had been offered and see if they would change from their offer of:

    200 Minutes
    Unlimited Texts
    Unlimited Internet (500mb)
    Phone for £16.50
    For £25/month

Was told that unfortunately there was nothing they could do. Told them it was pretty strange that T-Mobile, who are merging with Orange anyway, were able to offer me a much better deal than they were offering despite me being with Orange for over 6 years. Apparently this meant nothing to Orange and when I asked for my PAC code I was told it would be with me in a couple of days and thanked for my custom over the years.

Nothing like a bit of customer loyalty being rewarded for you.
  • I'm such a soft touch - I phoned up to get my PAC number, 100% determined to quit, but, somehow they managed to suck me back in yet again. This time with..

    - Free BB 8900
    - 1200 mins
    - 1500 texts
    - unlimited landline
    - unlimited internet/email etc

    £24/month

I think that's an ok deal? Generally I hate haggling, but I guess they could smell my genuine intent to leave.

Phoned Orange yesterday for my PAC hoping for deal. Got HTC Hero with package for £19.57 per month for 18 months but with no Internet. Really Internet is big part of Hero. That would be extra £4.89 a month.
Thinking about it today, I rang up wanting Internet for free but they wouldn't budge.
They said when phone comes refuse it, couldn't understand what he said about the PAC after that. Came away feeling annoyed. Any thoughts?
Also my contract is over on 14 Oct so do I cancel my D.D. now or what?

Don't cancel the DD. If they're sending you your pac you contract won't end until you use it and port to another network. They'll then bill you for your last month.

If your spend is low, the answer is no. Basically.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Thanks Jon01. Still wondering what anyone thinks of the deal.

First off, please don't repeat yourself.

    Second, please don't repeat yourself.

(Sorry - had to do that bit :D)

Seriously though, how many mins are you being offered? Can't tell if it's a good deal otherwise ?!?!?!?

I am being offered 400 mins + 800 texts and 3000 mins to landlines.

The thing is I have never used above 82 mins in a month and 200 texts would do me.
    I hardly ever phone anyway.
Perhaps they looked at my usage and gave me a seemingly big amount to try to look like a bargain knowing I would never use it.
Maybe I could bargain with them to drop mins and text for free internet on the Hero.

I spoke too soon...I phoned up today to wrap things up/get the phone sent out - the girl I agreed this deal with is off until Saturday and nobody there can find any trace whatsoever on their system of my new contract/agreement. I'm staggered.
