orange dont deserve loyalty of customers.... FACT...

me for example , been with them 5 years never had bill below £40 per month yet based on what they are offering id be better going to 02 on a simplicity with 600 mins, unlimited texts , free bolt on and a 30 day contract for £20 .....

yet all they can offer is substandard phone, 500 texts , 800 mins for £25 on an 18 month contract
I've just realised that you have posted in this thread three times in the past few days and I haven't responded to you. Apologies for that. How long are you from the end of your deal? What phone do you have now, what phone do you want (if any), and what do you require in terms of usage? Ignore any additions like broadband for a minute, what do you need out of your tariff?

Son is at school and too young to take contract out so it would be in my name but they know it is for him so it is actually for an existing customer but also getting a new customer for the future. As I said in a previous post Vodafone took the long view with my daughter, gave me a great deal for her as a young teenager, she is still a customer now as a university student with a bigger package.

Looking at what they are offering I don't feel like I will be losing anything.
What approach have you taken so far with this? Did you call up stating that this contract would be for your son but you would be paying for it, or did you call up requesting a further contract for yourself? I am guessing you did the former, in which case try the latter. Ring retentions, give them your account details and so on, and then ask what deal they can offer you if you take out a new contract. They might have more flexibility.

You say that you're only wanting a £15 a month contract. Orange are not all that good with the lower end contracts anyway. What sort of usage does your son have? Have you considered setting him up on an Orange PAYG sim card that gives benefits that work for him?

Your guess was right, well it was for the first call. for the second call I quoted deal I had seen in shop and asked why as existing customer they couldn't offer me a deal as good as one in local phone shop and they a. refused to believe the offer and b. refused to budge on first offer.

With my daughter I got her a bank account and atm card at 11 and gave her pocket money school dinner money and allowance for some of her clothes (not uniform and shoes) paid direct to her account. I hoped it would help her learn how to manage money and it seems to have worked, then got her a contract phone and expected her to manage her calls, she only once went over her minutes when on a school holiday and homesick. I wanted to do the same with son and so the contract phone was next. Virgin are offering me 200 minutes and 200 texts for £12, I think he might need more texts. With daughter I went for stop the clock as that was good for her (not that Im saying she can talk for England but .........) I don't think they are doing stop the clock for new contracts but to be honest the texts will matter more to him.

Alright. It is more difficult to get better lower end tariffs as a new customer, but there are some options available to you. If he texts more than he calls and doesn't call a lot, I think the 100 minutes and unlimited texts with Orange, if you can get it for £15, is your best bet. The bonus is that he could then have you as his magic number so he can always call you for free.

How do you feel about him getting a 24 month contract? I suppose it depends on how old he is now and when his usage will increase, but you will get better deals with 24 month contracts. O2 offer 75 minutes and 250 texts online for example (click). I'd give retentions a ring and just ask what they can do for you in terms of taking out an extra contract. Say that you want to spend no more than £15 a month as it's an extra expense above your current contract, but will need it more for texting. Don't challenge them to match other deals, don't be aggressive, don't get frustrated, and don't mention that the contract is for your son. Do explore some options with them and take some time, and do make it seem like this is extra business for them, but that you could do without if need be. It may take a few tries, but I'd say there's at least a possibility of them being flexible with you.

Last Thursday I managed to get what I thought was a good deal from orange for a renewal.

    18mths contract
    Free Nokia 5800
    300 minutes
    300 texts
    unlimited data
    unlimited UK landlines
    magic numbers

    £14.68

Phone was received nice and promptly on Friday to my work address.

    Now the problem....

I called on Saturday to check when the new Tarriff would be active as I didn't want to start getting data charges beforehand.

The lady said oh yes it goes live on the 5th of July and includes (as above except)....

    200mins
    80Mb data

When i corrected her she said I'll have to speak to the person that processed the upgrade and that she'd leave a message for her. I still haven't heard from her and have called on Monday and Today. If I don't hear tomorrow I'm going to reject the phone under the 7 day return policy.

Most of Orange's call centre staff work on a 3 on 3 off shift, which can make them a bit hard to get hold off sometimes. I'd call back and ask to speak to a team leader, they can go through the call logs and sort something out for you.

Last week i managed to get:

    Sony ericsson W995
    800 xnet mins
    1300 txts
    unlimited landline
    80 mb data

for £20 a month, 18 months, and magic numbers roll over.

I'm after the same handset but was only offered:
    300 xnet mins
    unlim txt
    80mb data
for £20, 18 month and magic numbers rollover.
    PLUS £48.50 for the handset

Could do with a few more minutes and not sure 80mb data is enough? Any idea how much I can do with this amount of data?

Was also offered the Nokia 5800 last week (as many others here).
Checked the handset out on YouTube and in-store and didn't think much of it. What do others think?

Any other negotiating tips to get the handset, 500mb data and more mins? Thanks

    Update:
I managed to increase the minutes to 400 but couldn't get the phone for free as I'm a fairly light user, but will get £46 back for current handset from one of the trade-in sites suggested on MSE. Result!

Can't help you on the Tarriff but here are my thoughts on the Nokia 5800 so far. Only used it lightly for a week so far as my new tarriff hasn't kicked in.

    1. If you are choosing this phone because you really wanted an iPhone but either couldn't afford one or couldn't get it on Orange. Forget it, it's not an iphone killer. It's probably a better PHONE than the iPhone. But not a better device.
    2. The Symbian OS is good and gives you good options for additional apps.
    3. Battery life is about two days with bluetooth on but only light use of the screen and no WiFi usage.
    4. Most annoying feature for me so far is that the 'Dialler' keyboard is not Alphanumeric only Numeric. So for instance when you call Orange customer services to complain that your tarriff isn't what was agreed :-) When it says "Enter the 2nd character of your passwd" unless you've memorized the alphabet to key mapping, you cant!. It's the only place in the OS that the numeric keypad isn't alphanumeric.

Other than that, I like it more than I thought I would when I read the reviews.
