I am a PBD victim with 2 expensive Orange contracts, still with 5 months to run.

I am wondering whether there is any point, this far ahead of the end of the contracts trying to negotiate a new deal (perhaps for 18 months) on the basis that they effectively release me from the current contracts and we start again with some sort of retention deal.

T-Mobile once did this, although a fair bit closer to the end of the contract.

Is there any point at all trying this with Orange and what might I hope to get, based on other peoples experiences ??

£30 racoon, reduced to £20 for 6 months, then £25 for 6 months, 12 month contact includes Broadband. No phone.
    Is that any good?

Thanks - I just tried to get broadband included but they upped the rate by £15 per month so it wasn't worth it. They then came in with Dolphin 20 for £20 which gives 300 minutes, 300 daytime texts and unilimited evening texts or Dolphin 15 for £15 which gives 150 minutes, 300 daytime texts and unilimited evening texts .... but is only on a 1 month rolling contract - which could allow me to keep my eye out for a good cashback deal elsewhere in the meantime.

My 18 month contract is up at the end of February. Should I contact retentions or wait for them to contact me?

You need to contact them before the end of January to give them 30 days notice of your cancellation. They will then (more than likely) offer you a retention deal. My contract ends on Wednesday and I can still choose whether to stay with them or go elsewhere...but you have to give that notice period if you are thinking of leaving. If you do nothing then you will keep getting charged your current rate and will hear nothing from Orange.

How much a month will you pay for that? I spoke to retentions yesterday and they said the best deal I could get was £30 per month on an 18 month contract, keeping the free broadband and getting 500 x-net minutes, 250 texts and 5MB data per month but paying £49.99 for the handset (HTC tynt ii). On reading this thread it strikes me that there are possibly better deals to be had but I don't know how to go about doing that.

Retentions did also say that this deal would only be available when my contract actually expires in three weeks or so and also said I had to keep monthly payment over £30 to continue to qualify for the free broadband however others seem to have managed to get this with a monthly payment of under £30?

Any advice would be appreciated.

With abit of negotiation and tact, just reminded them of all the things they have done wrong e.g. one month they charged me "non orange" prices for calls made to orange.
