I'd appreciate any help on this. I'm in my final month of an 18-month Orange £25/month discounted to £15 month.

I also have Home Max broadband with them - £25/month discounted to £15.

I want a Blackberry Curve 8900 on unlimited data. They've offered:

    400mins/unlimited texts
    550mb data allowance
£24.47 per month over 18 months
NO Orange Maps (because it's less than £30/month)

Alternatively, I could move to O2 where I'm entitled to 30% tariff discount through my employer. They'd give me:

    600 mins/100 texts
    unlimited data (fair usage)
£23.98/month over 18 months (after my discount)
£20.56/month over 24 months (after my discount)
presumably I get the pre-loaded Blackberry maps...

Have spoken to Orange about improving their offer but they truly won't budge. I'm tempted to move to O2 on principle, even though I'd have to take my broadband account elsewhere.

    What do you think?
Try ringing them a few more times and seeing what new people can offer. The 30% discount is something that they will not normally account for, but ultimately they will have to improve the offer to keep your custom. Request your PAC code if nothing happens with the next phone call, and see if anything changes.
    Nokia 5800, £19something/month, 400 mins, unltd texts.
Tocco Ultra, as above but £24.47/month
HTC Touch HD, 1200 mins, unlimited texts and data / £34something per month.
The 5800 deal is good. Vodafone can beat the Tocco Ultra deal (you'll get 600 minutes for the same price), and the HTC Touch HD deal is good but you can get a free HTC Magic (new version) on Vodafone with 600 minutes and unlimited texts for £30 a month, which would work out cheaper. Depends on how many minutes you use. No point paying through the nose for minutes you won't use.

Thanks for that. I know the 5800 deal is pretty good, I'm just not sure I want that phone, I've heard its not so good out of the touchscreens available atm.
I'm tempted by the Magic, but the camera isn't as good as the HD, and the screen isn't as big, and its not Windows (which I guess is a double edged sword). I haven't really read much about the Magic; is it any good?

EDIT: These were all 18 monthers, so voda can't beat the tocco deal it would seem.

jmoors- my advice still stands. Unless you actually use 1000 texts a month, in which case the O2 may not be as suitable.

The Magic has been much hyped as the definitive phone so far to run Android, though obviously if you want Windows you're better off with the Touch HD.

I will admit that I can't find the £25 18 month Vodafone deal for the Tocco Ultra. I was offered it in store to tempt me to move from Orange. I didn't take it, but perhaps I was offered something not strictly on the menu.

Trouble is I don't know what I want! I'm impressed by some of the magic's features, but equally unimpressed by others (namely the camera). I would prefer the HD, but I think its simply beyond my price range atm.

I like the squirm idea!! I visited a CPW yesterday to see what my options are and whether a Touch HD or an iphone through O2, there would be no charge for the phone. I actually pointed that out to Orange retentions when I called them last. I'm not very good at getting deals (I've come to that conclusion!) As I'm not sure what to say to trigger the bargaining. I just seem to end up feeling irked...

Sometimes it's just the person that you're talking to. Catch someone at a good time and they might be more willing to manipulate the system for you. Or (like I did) catch someone near the end of the day who is willing to throw anything at you to keep you before he goes home :D

I have just been offered an upgrade- still got three months left in my contract. 1200 mins any time any network, unlimited text messages and a sony eric c092 (which I have to pay £15 for)- monthly cost £17.61.

Shall I take this offer or wait until my contract ends?

That's a very decent offer, but there's nothing to suggest that you couldn't get something better. Ask them to put it on file for you to think on, and then go back closer to your expiry date.

I desperately wanted the N96 but despite on every phone call being told it's getting discontinued, they still couldn't give me it any cheaper than a hundred pounds?

    Today I called and settled for this 18 month deal which suits my needs;

    Tocco Ultra
    400 mins
    Unlimited txts
    Home broadband
    FREE 1gb dongle

    20 pounds per month!!!
