My current contract has just expired and I spoke to the upgrade team and they offered the following deal,

    HTC Touch HD - free
300 mins + 400txt + free landline calls and Internet
    £29p/m on 18mth contract.

Could anyone let me know if this is a good deal ?
That's a terrible deal. Did you definitely speak to Retentions?
I've spent 35 minutes on the phone to Orange tonight, only for them to say that I have no data package on my account....thus meaning no internet or sat nav, unless I pay extra for it.....
You need to go back to Retentions (use the same route that you used to speak to them originally) and check what has been placed on your account. There should be a record of the deal on there. You didn't happen to get the name of the person you spoke to did you?
I've got a work mobile and so don't need as many minutes. As a minimum I would like to get:
    - atleast 500 cross network mins
    - 100 texts
    - continue to get free broadband
    - continue to get the free broadband calls - or even free international calls
    - pay less per month than I'm doing now
    extras, if possible I'd like:
    - a better phone
    - free/ discounted mobile internet usb thingy

any ideas/ help on what you think i might be able to get would be most appreciated

    cheers
You will get a better deal through Retentions because you'll have a decent amount of credit through paying £35 a month. However, don't set your expectations to unrealistic levels. They want to keep you're business, but you're not going to carry on getting what you have now with a slightly lower tariff on a much lower price with a top end phone and discounted mobile broadband.

You get free broadband with a contract anyway, so that's fine. The free calls (international or not) are normally extra, and you're currently getting them for free. Probably best to stick with what you have there.

In terms of the price/phone balance, what sort of phone were you looking at getting? The simple fact is that if you want a top end phone you will pay more per month than if you want a more modest phone. The tariff will have to come with unlimited landlines as you will stay on Racoon, and though they can reduce the tariff to potentially get you more credit, you're not going to be able to simply take off one thing for another, because it doesn't work like that (e.g. take off the unlimited landlines and give me mobile internet). You'll have to decided whether you want to pay a lower price for an average phone, or more for a better phone.

The mobile broadband could be a problem, especially if you want everything else as well. See what you can get first of all with all of your demands (i.e. better phone, cheaper contract, slightly reduced tariff, mobile broadband) and see what they come back with. If it's not to your liking, or not possible, chop and change a few things and play around with what they can do until you get something you like.

i just rang up orange. this is the most ridiculous salesperson i ever spoken to.
i wanted to upgrade my phone as the contract is due on the 17th of June.
and i really wanted the samsung tocco ultra. I've checked on their website that it will be around 32pounds for the dolphine 35 for a 12month contract as a new customer n i'll get 50pounds from quidco.
n guess what they told me. i m afraid to tell u that that is only applies to new customer as marketing purposes. n for u as an old customer u need to pay 244pounds before u can think of upgrading.
i'm really sick of hearing this kind of nonsense. n i guess it will actually work out to be 244pounds cheapr if i leave orange n rejoin as a new customer.
anyone has any better way of getting thhe phone cheaper?

    Hi,

I have called up retentions and been offered:

    400 mins to any network
    300 text messages
    free broadband at home
    orange home phone

    £15 per month.

I have a couple of questions:

Do people think this is a good deal? I usually use about 250 mins, and have never used over 310.

I have heard bad things about the 10meg orange broadband at home. Does anyone else have any experience in relation to this? I have heard some complaints but I'm not sure how much these would effect me. I usually use the internet for browsing, looking around the web, and to watch tv (like e4 watch again) and ocasionally download films or music. By boyfriend also uses his x-box ocassionaly.

    I'd appriciate any help!

    I'd appriciate any comments.

I am on Orange mobile and broadband and have never had any problems myself (Over 3yrs now) I also get free broadband. What phone did you get offered ? This seems a tidy deal to me.

    Hi everybody,

I've been on an Orange Sim Only deal (£15 - 200 mins, unlimited texts) for around 6 months now. Prior to that, I was on Orange PAYG for around 8 years.

I'm thinking of getting the new HTC Magic on Vodafone for £35 a month on an 18 month contract. However, I could be persuaded to stay on Orange and sign an 18 month contract if they were to give me a suitably good deal on an upgrade.

Question is, will Orange do me a good deal in order to keep me as a customer if I'm currently on a monthly Sim Only package?

I know you can get a great deal if you're coming to the end of your 18 month contract and they can persuade you to sign another 18 month contract. But, what's the story for going from a monthly Sim Only package to an 18 month contract?

Want to know my chances of success before calling them you see.

    Thanks

Hi Bettingmad - thanks for the comments. I've heard that the Orange broadband is quite limited -

    up-to 8 Meg speed
    10GB usage allowance

but I am not quite sure what this would actually give me, and what i can do compared to what i do now?

    Thanks so much!!
  • Hello about 2 years ago i started a contract with orange the deal at the time was 800 mins unlimited text this was an internet offer. I then had a phone call asking if i wanted and upgrade so i took this no mention of a change to the contract. about a month ago i noticed i was only geting 500 mins and unlimted text for the same price so a phone call to orange come back as i have never had 800 mins. For this i said i wanted to cancel my contract they said there would be a fee. As i said to the person on the phone in my eyes i should not have to pay a fee as the contract was changed with out asking me. so they broke the contract? They said they would need proof to say i did have 800 mins and if i did not pay a charge to leave they would take me to court. I do not have any paper work ect ect I have stayed with orange for now but do not wish to . any advice?

    thanks
  • That's a terrible deal. Did you definitely speak to Retentions?

I did speak to the Retentions team and they have agreed to come down to £26 a month with the free unlimited internet. I am going to give another call tomorrow to check if I can get a better deal and if I don't, I will probably cancel the contract and look elsewhere. The problem is there aren't many better deals for the HTC touch HD.

I think what you need is a monitoring tool to see how much you are using now. I've found this link for you http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=285557

When they phoned up to upgrade, what exactly was agreed? Sounds like you took a new contract for a certain length of time. Ie: new contract with 500 mins and unlimited text for X amount of months (12,18,24?).
Did you take a phone out?

Even though you say they mentioned no change in contract, did you get a confirmation of this new upgrade? Likely a letter sent to you, explaining what you upgraded to.

If you did agree to a new contract, then the old contract doesnt stand anymore.
