Just a quick question - does anyone have any experiences of upgrading through the high-street Orange Stores - Are you able to get decent deals through them?
All you can get through the high street is 10% off your current line rental. They can give you no where near the deals that retentions will give you. Don't even try.

Am currently on a £25p/m contract, just entered the 3mth upgrade period. I tried Retentions 3 times yesterday and the best they could do was:

    HTC Touch HD - £58
900 mins + 500txt + free landline calls and Orange Maps (Racoon 40?)
    £29.36 p/m on 18mth contract.

After a bit more haggling, got them to thrwo in a hands-free kit and a car-charger too.

Not a brilliant offer, so will explore other options at the moment.

I wonder if anyone could let me know if this is a good deal (seems good to me!) - my contract ends 16th June and this is what I was offered today:-

    Free Samsung G600
200 x-net minutes (my average over last six mths is 100pm)
    Unlimited texts
    Unlimited Internet bundle
    18 Month contract

It seems rather good to me. I specified that I would like a phone with a good camera and this one has a 5megapixel camera. I would really like one with a bigger screen and thouchscreen with similar camera capabilities - can anyone suggest one I could ask for when I speak to them again? I've looked on the internet but have no idea which ones are of similar value to the G600 if you know what I mean...

    Any thought/idea much appreciated!

    Thanks

We can't say whether it's a good deal unless you put down the contract cost per month.
If you are looking at a touch screen phone in the same price range as the G600 the the LG Cookie will fit the criteria. see here for review http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/lg-kp500.htm.
Post the contract price so people can better advise you.
Don't put too much emphasis on 5mp camera as I currently have a G600 and the pic quality was far better on my previous phone which was a SE K800i (IMHO the K800 is also a far superior phone)

Whether its a good deal totally depends on how much it is per month, which i cant see in your post (might be me, i'm half asleep at the best of times!). A lot of people just want to get as many mins as poss regardless of how many they use, but that looks realistic compared to what you've said you normally use.

I've been with Orange for 10 years, my contract expired last month and I am a band 4 customer (1 being worst, 5 being best). I phoned earlier thsi morning and was signed up for:-

    400 mins
    unlim text
    unlim mobile internet
    free Nokia 2630
    +12 months Premier service
    £9.79p/m on 18 month contract

Know that handset aint the greatest but I'm using a sim-free Nokia i'm happy with I bought seperately a few months back. The upgrade one with do for my dad who hasnt had a new phone in about 6 years.

It wasn't that hard to come by. I was on the phone for 20 minutes, stayed polite and just pointed out what i needed and why. Had to blag a bit for the free internet thrown in, and the handset was offered by the CS rep, i didn't even want one. I did then try to blag a better one but no luck!! Still I'm very happy with that deal, reception is always fine wherever i use my phone, never had any big probs with Orange and good customer service.

Sorry guys...I'm such a numpty! :rotfl:

The price is £15 per month.

I'm currently paying £35 per month for loads of minutes that I don't actually use (I did the silly thing of going for a free laptop last time but paying more per month than necessary).

The most important thing for me is the camera and price. The touchscreen would just be a nice extra. They quoted £15 without the internet bundle and when I asked about internet she said that I could have unlimited for free.

Thanks Bettingmad for the info on picture quality - I think I will have a google for reviews on phones with good cameras.

Contract up today, so have just got around to ringing Orange to see what is available to me. Currently on £35/month contract, spending between there and £40 every bill.

I'm currently using a N95 and am in two minds whether to upgrade my phone. Told the agent I wanted unlimited internet plus 200 mins or so. Also mentioned I had been looking at a deal with Three for £20/month, 200 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet, Nokia E71.

I got offered the equivalent of the Three deal for £24.68.

Asked about the HTC Touch HD - got told that would be nigh on £200.

Asked what I could get if I didn't want to upgrade the phone - told to go get a Sim Only deal online.

Asked for my PAC code and agent was happy to process that for me.

I think maybe my approach was wrong - I was definitely expecting a little more flexibility to keep my business!

Does anyone think it would be worth me trying for better? - suggestions welcome!

Sounds like you got through someone who didn't know how to or wasn't inclined to offer you a good deal.

From previous posts on here it seems like if you try a few times you might get a better result from another agent. A bit like pot luck. Obviously there are limitations, but doesn't seem like you were offered much at all in the way of a good deal

Bear in mind that the phone needs to be decent enough to browse the web, the g600 certainly isn't(speaking from experience)
