    Got the PAC Code!

Yeah, I'm certainly going to look around, intrestingly I some of the deals as a new customer come close to what I'm offered apart from the data package and landlines.

I would like mobile internet as I would make use of it, unlimited landlines isn't such a big thing for me. Last contact I was averaging at about 450 mins use of calls. (sometimes over 500, sometimes under) so the 600 makes sense. Plus I don't want to be down on what I already had.
  • Obviously every retention deal depends on loyalty, but Im not overly impressed with what I've just been offered:-

Free LG Arena (Touch HD out of stock)
    400mins / Unlimted texts
    80mb data usage
    £14.69 a month

I've been with Orange years (something like 170 months, or so Retentions told me) and I've been out of contract 18 months !!

Previously when I enquired I was told that I had £380 loyalty to play with, this time the guy wouldn't say. He just kept banging on about getting the Dolphin package for half price.

In fairness that's a £30 plan (£25 online) for £15 with one of the latest phones. It's the phone that is keeping that deal at £15, and considering the value of the phone you're getting a good deal. If you lower your expectations on the phone you should be able to get a decent contract for a very low price.

  • Anyone had any good deals with the Sony C905? I was looking to get it for about £25 a month, I need 200 mins, about 300 texts and some data. The guy tonight said I couldn't get data and not pay for the phone for a contract under £30.

I know you can get the phone on t-mobile for £25 with about those specs on one of their tariffs (from when I searched) so I think I might keep going back and asking. Contract's up at the end of June.
  • My contract runs out in June. Only got one more bill left though so more than happy to move if the deal was available. Really want the HTC HD Touch though. £35/month bit much though for the length of time I have been with them. Average £49/month.

My original offer (which I accepted and then rescinded within 7 days) was 700 minutes, 100 texts, 80MB internet usage, and the C905 with two 8 GB memory cards for £25 a month. Which at the time was basically Racoon 35 for £25 a month rather than £35 a month with the C905. So it is certainly possible to get it lower than than £30 a month. What tariff are you on now and do you ever go over it? I would wait until closer to the end of your contract anyway.

I think they key here will be to wait until closer to the time. The best retention deals almost exclusively happen in the last month of the contract. I got my current deal (£35 tariff for £10 a month with a G600) five days before my contract was due to end. Don't be afraid to push your contract to the wire- it only takes a second to accept a new contract offer. Wait five or six weeks or so and see what they can offer then. By that time the Touch HD might even be more affordable, giving you more of a chance of securing a decent deal.

I would pretty much NEVER agree to paying £25 a month plus for and upgrade and STILL have to pay for the handset, that is crazy. If they value your business then they will be in contact once you have requested your PAC code. Id personally leave and take up a slightly higher monthly line rental and go through Quidco and look at Autocashback deals and you should come out better off even as a new customer. Orange are just being rude expecting you to pay that :p

They won't offer a deal that will lose them money. Simple as that. It all goes on last 6 months spend with 150, but usually last 12-18 months with retentions.

For example, if your bills were £150 a month for last contract, they may offer something daft to keep you for another 18 months (I dunno, 3000 mins, u/ltd texts and internet for £25 a month for example) - however remember when it comes to upgrade again, your spend will be lower, thus the next offer won't be anywhere near as good.

    Worth keeping in mind.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Yeah I deffo will wait before I approach it again. I am on a Dolphin 25 tariff but I also have the £5 internet bolt on for eve/wkends. My bills for the last 6 months have generally been over 30, towards the mid 30s and a couple have been near 40.
