So an eventful day! my TytnII now has a cracked screen after I dropped it...Ooops! Still works but there goes my original plan of moving to sim only until the release of win7....

So spoke to upgrades who immeadiately transferred me without me having to ask to retentions (only people who can talk TytnII - yes they still do them - woohoo!!)

    TytnII - £127
    400xnet
    unlim txt
    500mb
    £19.67 on 18 month / £14.78 on 24 month

18 month contract will take me late to 2010 when win7 should have been on the market for a bit so I'm fine with that. They were adamant they couldn't move on the phone price - what do others think??

It's not, really. You're probably getting a better phone than normal, but the tariff is nothing special at all for the price.

It depends on the actual tariff that you get. But as I stated above with my retention deal, I managed to get a Samsung G600 (which is what I use now, very good phone in my experience) free with a £9.73 tariff, and the minutes and messages that I got were equivalent to a £35 tariff. The deals are out there if you push them, and you should be able to improve on the deal you have there. Simply put, retentions should offer you a better deal than you can get as a new customer anywhere else. If they don't then threaten to move and ask for your PAC code. That'll make them sit up and take notice, and you tend to get more.

It depends. I was originally going to pay £8.50 for the G600 in my latest deal, then all of a sudden they could forget that charge. I doubt they could eliminate a charge as big as £127 entirely, but there is generally some wiggle room on things like this.

Hello, apologies if my question has already been answered, had a quick look back but this is a very long thread!

I've been with Orange about 4 years now, spending an average of £30 a month. I have a rubbish Nokia 6500 at the moment and am on Dolphin 25 (I think).

At the moment, I'm paying £15 a month (Dolphin 25, I think) but really would like a Blackberry. Is it unrealistic to aim for a free handset and internet access for less than £20 a month? Not really sure how far to push it. My current contract doesn't end for a few months yet, I presume the best time to negotiate with them would be within the final month?

    Thanks for any help! :)

You presume correct. Honestly Blackberrys are not my area of expertise, but getting a free handset with some free internet access (say, 80MB of data a month) is not unrealistic per se. Obviously you may struggle a little more with the more expensive handsets. Four years is a decent amount of time to build up credit, and even though £15 a month isn't a huge spend (only your last six months spend is counted), you may still have enough credit to get something decent.

Wait until your last month, and then just challenge them to give you what you want. If you don't reduce the price of your tariff or change tariff, then you have more negotiating power for the handset and internet access.

Thanks so much! I'm perfectly happy with my current tariff, I really just want internet access and a pretty phone! I will hang on 'til nearer the end of my contract and see what they can offer me. I'll also keep an eye on this thread, see what other people are being offered! :)

HI Thanks for the advice rang again spoke to someone different. got the samsung pixon with 900 mins unlimited texts and unlimited internet for £24 a month £15 less than what im paying now with better phone more mins and internet which i dont have now. Maybe could have held out for better but will see the cash reduction this month and so saved £15 a month for those 2 months so overall pleased.

Yeah for one reason or another it's a terrible deal. Paying £77 for the Tocco Ultra means you only save £13 on a new customer. That's not good enough. The only reason that I can think of is simply that the Tocco Ultra is a brand new top of the range phone that is extremely popular at the moment. However, that doesn't really make a viable excuse when they should be looking to retain a valuable customer.

So here's some suggestions. Ring Orange up again, a few more times if you have to (150 is free from your Orange mobile). See if you come across someone who can give you a much better deal than that. I went into the Vodafone store just before getting a new contract with Orange, and was offered 600 minutes, unlimited texts, and a free Tocco Ultra for £25 (genuinely). So hit them with that deal and then challenge them to beat it. If you've rang them a few times and they won't beat it, then wait until 10-14 days from the expiry date, and ring them up and ask for a PAC code to change to Vodafone. That will generally get a reaction out of them. Remember, getting a PAC code is not cancelling your contract. It only cancels it if you actually give the code to another supplier. But it is a great bargaining tool to show them that you're serious.

If you've done all that and they won't beat Vodafone's deal, then to be frank they don't deserve your custom. Orange have been very good to me and it would take a lot for me to leave them personally, but if they won't give you something better than the alternatives, you should exercise your rights as a customer and go elsewhere.

Don't forget that you don't want internet access with a blackberry, you want the blackberry bundle which is £5pm. A lot of the Orange staff are not aware of the difference between these. Your blackberry wouldn't be registered on the blackberry server without a valid blackberry bundle.
