Oh, and I have just successfully negotiated a new tariff for myself, having previously canceled my first retention deal. New deal is:

    500 minutes
    300 texts
    Unlimited landline calls
    Samsung G600

£9.79 a month. Brilliant deal and exactly what I wanted.

What tariff are you on now? Presumably one lower than £29.36 if they want you to pay extra for the phone?

I actually just re negotiated the deal I posted above to add a couple of hundred more texts to it. So my official new contract with Orange is now:

    700 minutes
    300 texts
    Unlimited landline calls
    Samsung G600

£9.73 a month. Which suffice to say I am very happy with indeed. That tariff is £35 in store.

    Hi,

First post on this area... my contract with Orange runs out on 18 April I think, I'm out of the country until next Monday, so will give retentions a call to see what they can offer then.

I'm currently on Dolphin 35 with unlimited texts and 600 minutes, and insurance, for £30 a month. I never use all my minutes, and I currently have nearly 900 rolled over. I've been with Orange for about 3 years now, does anyone know what I could realistically ask for? I'm after the new Sony Ericsson, keeping unlimited texts, but I would like less minutes in exchange for picture messages or internet usage?

BTW my last bill was £83  due to not realising my 3G sim card would be charged in Korea for data. My own fault. Phone has been turned off for most of the past few weeks!

Any ideas? I'm not good at the whole negotiating thing!

Anything that can save me money would be fantastic, but i really need to keep the unlimited texts, as I'm a heavy texter.

You'll have no problem keeping the unlimited texts. That will be a given. You'll also have a decent amount of credit built up spending £30 a month. That £83 bill was no doubt a hit, but will help you with negotiations.

Off the top of my head the very least you should be aiming for is the same deal with £25 a month, 80MB of internet usage on 3G, and the C905 (which I assume is the Sony Ericsson you are referring to) for free.

But you should aim for something better. Try going down one tariff and getting the C905 for £20 a month. It could be a long shot, but worth a try. Make the person on the other end of the phone work for you. They're there to keep your custom. The onus is on them to come with something that suits you. Use that to your advantage.

Do you desperately need the C905? The reason I ask that is that it is a top end phone that you'll realistically have to pay £20 or £25 a month to get. If you will settle for a more modest phone you can save a lot more money. Case in point is my retention offer above. I got that tariff on £25 a month with the C905. Or the same tariff with the Samsung G600 for £9.73. That is a huge saving, so it might be worth assessing whether or not paying the extra (and it may be as much as £180 extra or more) is worth the phone, or whether shaving more money off will benefit you more.

Do you have your heart set on a Pixon, or would you settle for a more modest phone? You can do much better than that if you only go for a more modest phone. Ask them what deals they can recommend if you drop down one tariff. Ask for the cheapest price and then ask what phone you could get with that. The phone won't be anywhere near top end, but you might be surprised at how low the price can go.
