    Hello,

After reading here of great successes with Orange retentions, I've been hoping to get some similar deal, but they don't seem to be able to help me..

I'm currently paying £35 pm for Racoon35 with some added mins, my contract ended months ago. I'd like a Touch HD, and could easily manage with 300 min, 100 text and unlimited landline, so I was hoping to be offered the
£20 (with 500Mb data) deal others here have got.

No way they say. "You can't have the most expensive phone for free on a low plan" They want £195 upgrade fee! The only alternative he could offer (after 5min hold) was to stay on my current £35 plan, add £5 for data, then the upgrade would be £107 (but credited back). I might have said yes to that, but I'd really hoped they could do better.

What to do now?? Perhaps I need to actually say I'm going to leave...

Was that offer from upgrades or retentions ? retentions have the better offers but even they have limits. Any offer is based on your spend over the last 6 months. If it's low you unlikely to get one of the great deals of lots of mins/texts and a top end phone for free. Even if you say you're going to leave there are limits to what the computer will allow them to offer you. So, make sure you're talking to retentions, say you're leaving and whatever they offer you just keep saying 'is that the best you can do?'. Good luck.

    Thanks Jon, but
    Computer still says no..
I called again asking for my code to make sure I was being offered the best they could do. My spend over the last six months has been between £35 & £45 pm, so not too low..
They continue to insist that it's impossible to get the Touch HD for free. My daughter (who works for Phones4u) tells me that new customers on £35pm get it free! After haggling and waiting, she reluctantly offered the £107 upgrade fee credited back (which I'd already negotiated on the last call!). I'll have to stay on my existing contract, but reduced to £30, additional £5 for internet though.
This is £5 a month better than before, still way off what others here say the've got. Can't see what makes me different! Been with them for years, I'm also several months after the end of my contract.
I guess I'll have to go for it if I want a Touch HD. Could really do with paying £20. Perhaps as a final haggle I'll ask if they can credit back the £195 upgrade I was offered on £20 a month.

    Others be aware:
I was told that the upgrade fee credited back deal ends on 1st.

  • Called again earlier and spoke for ages with a more helpful chap.
    Finally settled on:
    Racoon 35
    700 min
    100 text (+250 thrown in)
    Unlimited landlines
    Data add on (for free)
    18 months contract
For the Touch HD £107 upgrade fee, credited back.
    £30 pm

Pretty happy with that, although it's no bargain. Definitely far better than I would have settled for without visiting here first and getting some tips though.

It seems that it's worth calling several times until you find a rep that knows the best way to work their system for the best deal. He really gave me the impression that he'd pushed it as far as he could. (I'm easily fooled though!)
I did find that negotiating gets easier with each call too.

Thanks again to the people (like Jon & Diamonds) that lurk here all the time helping people along. It's so absurd that we have to go through this to get what they should offer us in any case...

Looking forward to the Touch HD.
I'll be off shortly, see you again in 18 months I guess!

Well the day has finally come after being with Orange for 10 years plus.

They have always come up trumps previously and persuaded me to stay, however the new Solo Plans sim only from T-mobile seem unbeatable and Orange even admitted so to me.

The nearest they could come up with in comparison to the T-mobile Solo 20 offered here.........

    http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/sim-card/pay-monthly/pay-monthly-solo/solo-20/allowances/

..........was an orange offer of 600 mins and unlimited texts but no Unlimited mobile Internet , just a add on for 250mb for £6/month......which equates to another £24 worth compared to the T mobile deal.

So my advice is go and leave Orange......they don't need or want your custom of 10years Plus.

And as for The new Business orange contract deals they offered me....well they were a joke.:rotfl:

Also the T-mobile Mobile broadband for £2/day dongle seems unbeatable, cos I'm sure as a business there are 4 weekends for a start in every month when you don't need braodband as well as some days when its just not required. And free of a contract as well

Hi guys, im having trouble trying to get a good deal out of orange, im trying to get the sony ericsson c905,

To get to retentions do i ring 150 then follow the option "if you are thinking of leaving orange"?

Just spoke to them and some chap offered me the c905 free of charge 600 minutes and unlimited texts for 30 pounds a month, I thought this was quite a lot so i asked for a lower tariff but he said I would have to pay 127 pounds for the phone... doesnt seem like a good deal, what do you guys think?

Say that you don't want to have to pay for the phone and is that the best they can do? Perhaps go in and say I'd pay £50 max for it, otherwise I'm walking away. You can improve on that. Perhaps not free, but some credited back or cheaper.
  • Thanks for all the tips, they've been very much appreciated. Just created an account to say thanks really, and let you know what I got today.

I am currently on Orange with 500 mins, 100 texts, orange care (the insurance package), and a SE w910i for £20 a month (the phone was free). Been with them for years. I think I am on "band 2". A social leper, I know.

Really wanted a BB Bold. Hassled them 10 days ago, phoned 3 times, not much going on really - best offer was 600 mins, UL txts, pay £180 and get credited £120 (i.e. £60), £25 a month. Hmmm, lady said phone back in 10 days when credit better.

Phoned today, 6-7 weeks from end of contract. First guy helpful, offered Dolphin 25 with a total of 400 mins, UL texts, £19.57, plus 45 for the phone. Good - but no cigar. he went off to try and get me more but didn't call back. Humph. Tried again, unhelpful man said was I going tohave to fork out 190 quid. Tried again, lady no use, pushing me towards non-BBs, no thanks.

Tried again(!), helpful chap this time. No knowledge of earlier deal offered but tried to help me out. No way a BB Bold would be available for 45, I'd have to pay a 100. Soemthing to do with changes during the day, whatever. OK, says I, well I was offered 500 (ish!) mins earlier, UL texts, for 19.57. Can you improve on that? No came the answer. OK, what about throwing in my orange care. Off he goes, we'll knock a fiver off, yes, the orange care is now included for £20 quid, BB Bold is still a ton.

Now, I'm doing the maths on my desktop, and that's not bad. I would like the insurance, it's just too useful. A friend at vodafone didn't pay for her BB Bold, but pays £25 for 600mins/UL texts, without insurance, so I've ended up with a broadly equivalent deal, a bit more suited to my needs. A hundred pounds for the phone is only a fiver a month over the course of my contract, plus I can just sell my old SE w910i to cover it for the most part. Had I gone for the BB Curve it would have been easier/cheaper, but I am just picky like that.

That's my experience, make of it what you will! Be prepared to have knock backs, haggle a bit, and there's a deal in there. Shame it took so long, though... Come on Orange, look out for loyal customers!
