Really interested in the Nokia 5800 as I love the idea of free wifi usage

Have called last week and they did suggest I will be able to get this handset for nothing, but you know your luck can always change!

    Hello,

After reading here of great successes with Orange retentions, I've been hoping to get some similar deal, but they don't seem to be able to help me..

I'm currently paying £35 pm for Racoon35 with some added mins, my contract ended months ago. I'd like a Touch HD, and could easily manage with 300 min, 100 text and unlimited landline, so I was hoping to be offered the
£20 (with 500Mb data) deal others here have got.

No way they say. "You can't have the most expensive phone for free on a low plan" They want £195 upgrade fee! The only alternative he could offer (after 5min hold) was to stay on my current £35 plan, add £5 for data, then the upgrade would be £107 (but credited back). I might have said yes to that, but I'd really hoped they could do better.

What to do now?? Perhaps I need to actually say I'm going to leave...

Was that offer from upgrades or retentions ? retentions have the better offers but even they have limits. Any offer is based on your spend over the last 6 months. If it's low you unlikely to get one of the great deals of lots of mins/texts and a top end phone for free. Even if you say you're going to leave there are limits to what the computer will allow them to offer you. So, make sure you're talking to retentions, say you're leaving and whatever they offer you just keep saying 'is that the best you can do?'. Good luck.
  • I have just managed to get a Touch HD for £48 (I got this back through a reduction in monthly fee). I got £28 per month for 1200 cross network minutes, 500 texts, unlimited landline and 500mb data which I am very happy with. The phone comes tomorrow, I just hope I like it!

  • Been with Orange 10 years now and average spend for the last 6 months is £47.

Phoned up retentions and was offered the following-

Free HTC Touch HD (well £127 actually but I get credit of £130)
    600 Xnetwork minutes
    Unlimited Texts
    3 x Magic Numbers
500mb Data (is this what they class as unlimited?)

    for £35 per month.

Not sure if this is a good deal or not.

It's been out for a while now, I'd have thought if they were going to have it, it would be out by now. Orange don't always take SE handsets.

i cant believe what some people are brave enough to wangle!!

im in last 3 months so can upgrade, looking at the tocco or pixon and have just been offered:
    200 mins
    unlimited txt

However i think this was just in upgrades and not in retention, do i just need to stand my ground and say im goin to leave if they cant do better???!!!

You won't get a good offer until you're in the last month or even better after the end of your contract.
Yes, you need to talk to retentions, but you won't get to them until you get to the end of your contract as you can't leave til then.
My daughter got the same offer but at £10 through retentions...
