That's really good. I like the look of the Touch HD but it's Win Mobile, which I don't like.

    Hey...

I seem to have been in a similar situation to you today. I too upgraded today, 3 months prior to my 18 month contract ending.

Initially, the guy said I had to pay £130 for a HTC Touch HD... I then threatened to buy out the rest of my contract and leave, to which he sent me through to the retentions team.

A very nice lady came on the phone and gave me the following deal:

    18 month contract
    Touch HD for Free
    1200 mins x network
    unlimited txts
    unlimited internet (500 mb)
    £35 per month

I was happy with that and agreed! although some of the deals here seem better than that, I was happy as it was better than I thought I'd get before calling.

    Thanks Gaz

I don't think that's too bad at all. They seem very reluctant to giveaway their phones for free, the higher-end ones that is. So on a brand new exclusive device like the Touch HD they seem to want quite a bit of money upfront to secure it.

Sometimes I wonder why the retentions department even exists, in my opinion, automatically stiffing your existing customers is just bad business practice. I convert many people to Orange but when it comes to upgrade time half of these deals should just be automatic.

They've rewritten their offers for existing customers, there's no longer an accrument of extra 5% loyalty bonus each year up to 25%, which I believe they had. They say you can keep your existing contract but they word it so that the free airtime credit they give you isn't part of the official contract. Orange in particular have been really slow to get on an unlimited internet data plan at a reasonable price. They were charging something like £8/month for 80MB not long ago.

I don't think you should feel like you have to fight them to get a reasonable deal just because they stiff you so badly when it comes to renewal times if you do anything but threaten to leave.
  • I have a friend at Orange Retail who told me to call retentions to get the deal for £15 plus £5 internet.

The £35 for everything + 1200 minutes is what I would have preferred as I use over 600 minutes every month but nevermind.

Can't wait, HD arrives on Monday!!

Hmm I see. I saw on mobilerainbow.co.uk they had a deal for samsung soul graphite for 500 mins, 375 texts at £14.58 AND a 12 month contract (with t mobile), Ill mention this to orange next time i phone! If they can maybe give me my current offer for 15 quid, even if they cant for 12 months, id be chuffed. Maybe they could throw in some free mobile browsing or something.

But this is all if the computer is letting me take the offer any lower!

I basically decided I'd had enough waiting and was gonna sort this finally today. I phoned retentions and mentioned that above online offer...this time for c902 (decided against samsung soul since id already had g600). Original offer:

    £20 400 mins 500 texts for 18 months

New offer: £20 600 mins unlimited texts, plus some free internet (£5 maybe?) and a free bluetooth headset

Im pretty happy to be honest. The helpful lady said she couldnt offer anything lower than 20...but its a good deal I reckon. I think I maxed out what I could get considering my low usage and only been with orange 18 months etc.

Just got off the phone to Orange. Like above, called the 0800 number on PAC code letter.. Came away with this. Amazing offer in my eyes...

    HTC Touch HD - FREE
    200 min, unlimited texts + 500mb data
    Free Orange Care
    ....
£15 Per Month!! (Take a few pence off for VAT)

After having the Touch HD for a week or so, I just didn't get along with it. Sold the Touch, bought the 8900 Curve (Love it!) and now my package stands as:

200mins, unlimited texts + unlimited BB
    £4.00 Per Month!
(The previous £15 was for Orange Care and Data, both now removed saving £11 per month as my BB is a free bolt on!)

hey guys ive been following this thread for the past few weeks, did have a sony ericsson K810I which i hated for 18 months paying 35 pounds 600 mins, unlimited texts

rang 150 the other day and followed instructions which i went through to "if you are thinking of leaving orange..."i was wondering if this was retentions?

spoke to some guy who offered me the Samsung tocco 400 mins 500 texts unlimited orange to orange calls for 22 pounds a month

ive got 7 days to try the phone and if i dont like it i can return it and change the phone and the contract, im after a basic phone and only want to pay around 20 pounds do u think i could get a better offer than this?
    cheers

I know someone who was on the Dolphin 35 and recently upgraded.

    They offered them this:

    £17.50/month - 18 month
    400mins
    Unlimited Texts
    Samsung Tocco Free

The Tocco is afterall not a very expensive phone so there's some headroom there to get your price down.

  • Hello,

After reading here of great successes with Orange retentions, I've been hoping to get some similar deal, but they don't seem to be able to help me..

I'm currently paying £35 pm for Racoon35 with some added mins, my contract ended months ago. I'd like a Touch HD, and could easily manage with 300 min, 100 text and unlimited landline, so I was hoping to be offered the
£20 (with 500Mb data) deal others here have got.

No way they say. "You can't have the most expensive phone for free on a low plan" They want £195 upgrade fee! The only alternative he could offer (after 5min hold) was to stay on my current £35 plan, add £5 for data, then the upgrade would be £107 (but credited back). I might have said yes to that, but I'd really hoped they could do better.

What to do now?? Perhaps I need to actually say I'm going to leave...
