At school it was served with a diluted rose hip syrup sauce. Not something I've ever encountered elsewhere, but it was a fantastic combination.

So the butter contains black pepper but not actual black truffle, only something which is supposed to taste like black truffle?

I got some for 29p (for 75?g) when they reduced at after Christmas last year. VERY strong. Not sure I actually liked it. I used about half and put the rest in the freezer - probably still buried in there someplace.

I remember Rose hip syrup when I was a kid - in the 60's - it was actually prescribed by GP's because it was so high in vitamin C.

Given the rosehips, my mother (a sprightly 80 something) Will Still try to make rose hip syrup! Happily with us infants increasing in age, we have also got a bit more guile, & now dodge those itchy blighters for the sloes & the gin… She's still happy & we leave the rose hips for another senior soul to enjoy. War babies are hard to kill, & pretty tricky to steer…

For £1.99, what do you expect? 😁
@Brie - truffle is an acquired taste, once you get past its initial petrol vibes. I use Lidl's truffle oil on risotto and it tastes 👌

I love truffle but not this stuff. Perhaps if I was burying it under loads of other flavours but to just have it straight (like a small portion melting on top of a steak) was just toooooo much.

I bought some for my Mum before Christmas and it has mysteriously gone AWOL (along with countless gifts "saved for best" for decades). Lets see if it can be found before next weekend!

I went to buy this earlier and had to hunt, not because there was none left but because the packs belong in a doll's house!! I had to turn it over carefully to find a pack size on it - a miserly 110g and less than half the size of a standard pack of butter, could I have made this stretch to 4 jacket potatoes? 😕 Needless to say, it stayed on the shelf (along with the garlic butter).
