@Doc_N - PYO is a lovely experience but in truth its no longer an inexpensive option. Although I quite fancy heading towards Kent myself this summer for cherries.

Yes the PYO prices build in the fact that everyone has probably eaten their fill while picking.

I don't find strawberries pot luck at all if you pay attention to the variety on the label.

With most fruit & veg they are not all the same but different varieties. Varying in size, shape, taste.

Take red grapes, I find Flame absolutely horrible so don't buy them, Crimson are my favourite variety and always good.

You don't see them much now but Elsanta strawberries (British grown) used to be very common in supermarkets, they looked nice but were tasteless so I didn't buy those. Murano strawberries are pretty good but I like most varieties available during the season.

The ones that stood out to me were massive, a deep red and were labelled "Kentish" in Aldi.

I shall be on the lookout 😁

Tescos has their big boxes of strawberries available for, I think, £5. I'll have a look and see if there's more info to be had. I fancy a bit of fruit.

Just a heads up: Morrisons currently has 2 punnets of strawberries for only 99p. I put four in my cart today. I haven’t tucked into them yet but will this evening so I’ll report back then. These are available in the store and online.

So all four punnets of the Morrisons strawberries are from Spain and there are three different varieties represented: Fandango, Arwen, and Rociera. I chose the Fandango variety to have some for my dessert and they’re ripe but not too ripe and are sweet. I wouldn’t kick them out of bed for eating crackers! I’m just happy to finally have strawberries to eat again.

YMMV, of course, depending on your area and who’s supplying you. In my part of Scotland, these were the ones my Morrisons had.

I ended up getting some of the berries on cheap at Lidl. They look large and read but there is nothing I can see on the pack about variety. But at £1.59 for a large (400g?) I'm willing to give them a go.
