Got some easy peelers from Lidl a few days back and 3 have turned black overnight. Think I'll go back to buying Tescos which were very good, albeit a bit more expensive.

That is no good! I must have been lucky, mine lasted ages in the fridge. I buy several bags at a time, take a quantity out and leave them at RTP for a few days and they are generally fine. You must complain (nicely).

The bakery spin is back at Lidl = incentive to shop but not exactly healthy! I used my free bakery treat after spending £10 to buy the limited edition Dubai pistachio chocolate muffin. It's priced at £1.99 and at that price I feel like framing it not eating it.

The bottled ketchups (chilli tomato, mango and one other I can't remember) have flown off the shelves and not been restocked.

  • Went to Lidl for the first time in a while (mainly for their Chinese week / roast duck), and found I had a whole load of Lidl Plus free-item coupons on the app. Are those seasonal offers?

Found some Galbani Burrata for £1.99. Which will go nicely with the free sourdough loaf (coupon), and the Greek tapenade in Lidl this week (quite a bit cheaper than Tesco / Sainsburys, where tapenade costs twice as much).

    Also some recent Aldi buys:

Haggis - bought a few to freeze as I love haggis. Actually quite decent, compared to the brand name ones. Shame they weren't around for long.

Spotted a price tag for 2kg of chicken thighs on half price offer - was £12 down to £6 - but there were none left :(

The Dubai pistachio chocolate muffin is not all that. I shared this with family and my dad complained it was "bitter"! The 39p jam doughnut is far superior.

  • Pistachio = 2025’s answer to sea salted caramel. I wonder what the flavour of 2026 will be…

And Rosa, I agree on the doughnut. I also much prefer a supermarket (or bakery) jam doughnut to the more ‘fancy’ varieties in Krispy Kreme and the like.

Best donut I've had in ages (short of the Tim Horton's in Canada last May) are the marvelous ones available from Polish shops. About £1.50 each but well worth it. A beautifully cooked donut with a filling of strawberry or plum jam or custard (actually good what do they call it creme pat? or something, excellent) or as suggested by the lady in the shop I was in the traditional variety which she claimed was fill with roses (which I took to mean a rose jelly). I bought the custard ones. Incredibly yum.

Which is your favourite Lidl "croissant" (or similar )?

I include Danish Pastries in this question….

Almond croissants for me - although they have shrunk recently and contain much less Almond paste.

I love a good almond and raspberry croissant, I haven't seen them in Lidl though. I'd happily suck up any sweet pastry like a hoover.
