Not sure they are vile, I just don't see the point of them.
It's like they look like mini romaine (which I like a lot) but have a texture of cabbage and a bitter taste.  I think I'd prefer to have a salad made of raw brussel sprouts.

I think we are talking at cross purposes. You were referring to lettuce, me to these:

I have Little Gem lettuce lurking in my salad drawer, in sandwiches it's fine.

I actually like little gem lettuce.
Much nicer than the tasteless iceberg.

Midget Gems sweets (aka Mini Gems) are rubbish whatever shop you buy them in, but I think Aldi generally has the better sweets than Lidl, though I'm basing that mostly on their Liquorice allsorts.

The Sugar-free boiled sweets are pretty much identical at both L & A, and the same price.

Aldi's product has recently been updated, with new packaging and a new look for the two-flavour varieties.

Still no Gold tea bags in Aldi, been well over a month since I last saw it, no label on the shelf either just filled in the space with other stuff. And this week there was none of the red box regular tea bags either. Just been to Lidl this morning where I haven't been for a while, and neither did they have either types in stock. For some reason there must be stocking issues with own brand tea bags in my area.
  • Well, I bought a bunch of crysanths at Tescos last week - same price as Lidl, or maybe a few pennies difference, not one had been dead headed or had broken flower heads so no more flowers from Lidl - maybe their roses as you can see immediately if any are broken or in poor condition.  I expect the Tesco roses are the same price.
  • Bought some Deluxe Hot X buns from Lidl on Sunday 29th, labelled as good till 1st January (tomorrow, Wednesday). They were already stale on Sunday. This is the second time this has happened, so I won't be buying them again.

Had the Lidl croissants and pain au raisins this morning.  The croissants at 49p are still very good, maybe not quite as nice as Co=op but I'm not going to grumble at less than half the price.

Today's outing for the OH was to go to the Polish shop for some meats and mushrooms and bread.  Pleased that the borscht cuppa soup has only gone up 10p in the last 4 years - now £1.59 for a box they claim makes 17 servings (and I use less per cup than they say so it goes even further!!).  Talked myself out of buying any cabbage rolls and now I'm annoyed.  Next time....

The (west) Oxford Aldi only had three bunches of crysanths left as flower stock on Thursday night but they were all in good nick (& mum was utterly charmed). Still undercut the nearby Tesco metro!
