Only ever seem to see 30% off in local Aldi- seems to be the norm- and that on the date, not before.
Must be different then per store, but my experience during covid was at three different stores in different areas as we moved a fair bit and all seemed to change the policy to 30% off the day before and 75% on the day itself.
Ah, you are talking about Covid: I am talking about , well now , even yesterday - sadly not here.
Used to be 50% but went down to 30% & has been like that for  a long time now.
Maybe it depends how much actual wastage there is at the end of the day?
If it gets sold at 30% then so be it!

(Just here Aldi is the best value supermarket- compared with Morrisons & Coop- so the turnover is probably pretty high- other large s.m are a minimum of 24 miles round trip)
Oh no I meant covid was when 30% was introduced. It's been like that until the past month at our Aldi which surprised me. I think they probably ended up selling more off at 75% so made sense for a heavier discount the day before.
  • I popped in to my local branch around about lunchtime to pick a few bits up for my mum. Mistake with timing, it was busy! I had to wait for a space in the car park and felt really irritated shopping within: I wanted to be in and out, Supermarket Sweep-style as I usually do in the evenings, but it was not to be. The branch manager must have thought kerr-ching!, it was full to the brim of people with full trolleys and my goodness they were leisurely. Looking around me I wondered where the cost of living crisis was! Or maybe folk are just preparing for a cold snap?

No frozen sweetcorn in stock, but I did find that same hand cream, reduced to £1.99 now so picked up a couple of bottles and gave one to Mum.

So much to read, so little time.

Aldi and Lidl have been 'discovered' by the masses now - the ones who used to look down their noses at them.  Review after review (another one today) in the 'quality' broadsheets showing that their products are often actually better. Today's comparison was Aldi/Waitrose - and Aldi won.

I think the tipping point has finally been reached - not good news for Tesco et al.

Frozen sweetcorn definitely on the missing list and has shot up in price too.

Ended up going to Tesco to buy their bog standard version: £1.60 for a 1kg bag. Not so long ago it was just 90p (at Aldi).

You are probably right although I dread to think what saturation will look like! I still don't think twice about sticking impulse buys in my basket at Aldi, everything I purchase from Tesco or Sainsburys undergoes thorough scrutiny for cost-effectiveness. Loss aversion I think - I hate the feeling of being ripped off.

May not be good news for us shoppers either, price creep upwards is getting beyond a joke at Aldi, not so much creep as leap as the gap between Aldi/Lidl and Tesco prices seems to be narrowing daily!

We’re stuck with Tesco deliveries for now, with the occasional Aldi Click and Collect pickup for their continental cheeses, which are hugely cheaper than Tesco and better quality too.

The price may be narrowing, but Tesco still lags behind on quality - and that even includes the fruit and veg now. The so-called Aldi price matches are, without exception, inferior. Whereas Aldi fruit will be Class 1, Tesco will be Class 2. And Tesco always use inferior ingredients.

I bought a bag of Aldi’s “Wonky Carrots” expecting them to be misshapen or broken but at least edible. In fact, a lot of them were slimy and going rotten. There were also some that were going soft at the top, but I’ve found that with other supermarket carrots recently and I think they might have been frozen in the cold weather. Anyway, when I’d sorted out the good from the bad I had to throw away (in the compost bin) about half the weight, so altogether a bad buy.
